city,
a eucalyptus, etc.
We use 'a' wit h the wo rd 'one'. It sounds
as if it begins wit h a con son ant . For
example, a one -ru pee not e, a one-eyed
man, etc.
We use 'an ' bef ore a wo rd beg inn ing
wit h a vow el sound. For example, an
elephant, an actor, an ice cream, an ox,
an umbrella, etc. The con son ant 'h' at
:,eginning of ho ur and hon est is silent. So the
we use an hour, an hon est man.
