In my essay for English 1301 I learned the fundamentals and the basics in writing my
essay in MLA format that I currently used and implemented in my first essay for English 1302. I
knew about the MLA and APA formats, but I had never put them into practice and actually used
them for many essays until my English classes for college came around. In my first Univ 1301
class during my 2021 fall semester at Texas A&M University (TAMIU); my professor for that
class taught me how to look at peer-reviewed articles and journals through the use of the Killam
Library database. This was the first time I was exposed to information that was undoubtedly true
and easy to use for future essays and research opportunities.
For the most part everything I learned in English 1301 was, is, or will be used during my
English 1302 class. At most maybe I will not use as little articles as I did during my time in
1301. I have a good feeling I will be using a lot more articles and journals for my 1302 English
class compared to my 1301 English class.
In this first essay I learned how diligent I needed to be to be able to finish the experiment,
the journal, and ultimately type the essay out to be able to turn it in.
For this first essay the experiment involving writing a journal might not be applicable in
the same way it might be applicable for other classes. The journal’s only standpoint was to write
in it every day. Kind of like a personal diary more than a journal.
Using outside research for my experiment allowed me to learn more about what I was
experimenting with and to compare it with what I had already known or thought to have known.
My strengths in writing are that I can surpass the word limit easily when I am writing
about something I have a slight interest in. With that motivation and that interest, I am able to not
worry about surpassing or barely reaching the word limit.
The most challenging part of this essay was completing the experiment part of the essay,
mostly because I got really tired of doing push-ups after the sixth day of the experiment. Writing
the journal also took its toll on me because I would constantly forget to do that. Lastly, actually
typing out the essay was a little bit of a hassle, since I don’t like essays or typing.
