This memo should be a tool that will encourage employees to maintain sustainable work habits.
A few habits that could be incorporated into the work environment could be packaged lunch
into reusable containers or deposing waste in the appropriate bins.
This report includes a set of instructions that were provided to the entire staff of the National
Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The instructions aim to developed and implement
better habits to create healthier and more sustainable environment. The company wants to
help their employees to grow as individuals by incorporating goals into their lives in the work
environment. Not only will these goals help each individual but will have a greater impact on
our environment.

Objectives

Careless actions of humanity have caused pollution to spread throughout the world. Improper
disposal of waste has caused mass effects on our oceans that ultimately effect each individual
every day. Plastic that accumulates in the ocean can be confused for food by marine life. The
biodiversity plays a key role in maintaining a balance in our ecosystem. The instructions aim to
provide a platform that makes it easier for employees to implement better green practices in
their work environment. The instructions include a list of ideas that employees can
incorporate and eliminate bad habits. It also allows the company to hear feedback from their
employees to see what ideas they had. The idea is to create a playful competition to
encourage employees to not only maintain these habits, but it pushes their peers to do
better.
Instructions
1. Start by choosing a green habit you want to incorporate into your daily work schedule. A
few examples are provided below:
o Use Reusable containers for meals
o Dispose waste in the appropriate bins
o Turn off sink water while you’re scrubbing hands to conserve the water
2. Email the coordinator the green habit you selected
3. There is a chart on each floor that has your name, department, and days.
4. Write your green habit underneath your name
5. Each day if you completed your green habit but a check mark for the appropriate day

o All the employees found the memo clear and straight forward.
o Most employees found the incorporation of better habits to be beneficial.
o Most employees incorporated better habits into their work schedule and
motivated other employees to do better.
o All employees appreciated provided examples.
o Most employees found the incorporation of better habits to be positive and
few individuals found them to be negative.

The employees were provided with a series of open-ended questions


1. What goals do you think would be great to implement in the work environment?
2. What part of the challenge has created an impact on your work life?
3. Do you think incorporating green habits makes a difference in the work life and
the environment?
4. What can be improved?
5. How can we help make the challenge more impactful?
o Employees suggested making the challenge a competition and the
employee with the most points by the end of the year would get a raise.
o Employees agreed that using reusable containers for lunch encouraged
them to eat healthier as well as eliminate waste.
o Employees felt that incorporating green habits in their work life has
allowed them to grow as individuals. They learned how to be more
responsible and held fellow coworkers accountable to maintain the goals
they set.
o Most employees felt that the green habits could be easier to maintain if
there were designated recycling bins, waste bins, and compost bins.
o Employees felt that if the CEO and Managers were apart of the challenge
and competition it would increase the competitiveness as well us help the
work community to grow by getting to know each other better.

Recommendations and Conclusion

There were several recommendations that were provided by the employees. One employee
suggested that the company should have a competition with another company to bring
awareness to green sustainability. Another employee suggested providing incentives to
encourage better green habits. Employees we appreciate you taking the time to read our
memo this week. We hope these green habits will help you to create a healthier lifestyle as
well as encourage each other to go above and beyond. There have already been sustainable
practices incorporated into each department and we are excited to see how it continues
improve throughout the year! Keep up the great work!
