Physical Well-Being

Physical Well Being comprises lifestyle behavior choice to ensure health, avoid preventable
diseases and condition and conditions and to live in a balanced state of body and mind.
Physical activity plays an important role in employee’s health, well- being and quality of life.
Knowing how to encourage your employees to look after physical wellbeing by embracing
the environment is essential to a productive workforce. Studies proved that happy
employees at work usually take fewer sick leaves and have lower health care costs.

From the Survey carried out, it can be deduced that, DRIHL main focus was on increasing
use of emerging technologies and digital, spend more on upskilling and reskilling its
employees rather than enhancing culture at work and employee’s Physical well-being.
Knowing employee’s health and habits helps a company to adopt constructive well-being
programs at work. From the Survey, DRIHL staffs disagrees whether they feel good about
their health indicates that the workers do not take their health seriously at work which late
can contribute to productivity loss, high level of absenteeism, demotivation in the long run.
Besides the workers of DRIHL barely exercise regularly implies that, they do not have a work
life balance and may affect the mental health of a worker- not getting enough physical
exertion can cause dementia and depression. Sleeping disorder and having a bad eating
habit can lead to depression and anxiety. Contribution factor to that is stress at work, tight
deadlines, conflicts at work.
5.6. Physical Well- being

Allows flexibility in workings hours


If it doesn’t affect the business, DRIHL can allow flexible working hours. This way the
workers can make time to choose the time they will come to office and can make time to go
to the gym or join a sport/ fitness activity after work

Build a work culture of being active


DRIHL can encourage its staffs to take short breaks to stretch and work around office.
Making small changes to working styles like to take the stairs instead of the elevator, hold
stand meetings, opt walking over to a colleague’s desk instead of sending emails or making
phone calls.

Healthy Eating environment


DRIHL can take incentive to encourage healthy eating in the workplace. They can adopt this
incentive by providing well- balanced catered meals, healthy snacks and lunch benefits at
the office canteen.

Physical wellness programs and bonuses.


DRIHL can offer wellness programs and bonuses for employees who engage in physical
activity. Many companies in Mauritius have already started to implement exercise in the
office by implementing wellness week, a gym corner, basketball courts, pool tables, yoga
spaces and jogging clubs.

Mental Wellness education and programs


DRIHL can contribute to employee’s physical health by reducing employee’s stress and
increasing mental wellness. The management can organize health screening , Nutrition
education, health risk
Environmental wellness

Environmental wellness is described as having good health by occupying pleasant, stimulating


environment that support well-being. It promotes interaction with nature and also creating an
enjoyable personal environment. Everyone can have a strong environmental conscious simply by
raising their awareness and incorporating features that help to make their setting more agreeable to
them. It includes having respect and awareness of the surrounding and working for its betterment. It
also includes go green, planet friendly, sustainable living , ecofriendly living and environmental
sustainability.

Environmental wellness

Being aware of the planet and environment more responsible in their actions. Therefore, it becomes
essential to comprehend the signs of environmental wellness at work. DRIHL can adopt holistic set of
SMART environment goals and focus on

 Reduce Conservation by installing basic water – efficient Technologies, water recycle and
reuse
 Waste reduction by using bringing lunch in reusable containers, reducing paper waste
reduction, use of both sides of the paper when printing, copying and writing
 Pollution prevention - Turn off all electronics and office equipment when you leave the office
 Zero emission- Make use of solar energy for lightings and encourage carpooling to reduce
emission of harmful gases in the air.
