Mathematics in the Modern world

1. What is Mathematics?
Mathematics is the science that deals with the logic of shape, quantity and arrangement.
Math is all around us, in everything we do. It is the building block for everything in our daily
lives, including mobile devices, computers, software, architecture (ancient and modern), art,
money, engineering and even sports.

2. Explain and enumerate the characteristics of Mathematics.

CHARACTERISTICS OF MATHEMATICS

 Classification - arranging or sorting objects into groups on the basis of a common property that
they have. Classification generates a series of mental relations through which objects are
grouped according to similarities and differences depending on a specific criteria such as shape,
color, size, etc.
 Logical Sequence - is a set of numbers, words, objects etc, following in a sequence with some
sort of relation between two consecutive sets.
 Structure - is a set endowed with some additional features on the set.
 Precision and Accuracy - Precision is how close the measured values are to each other. Accuracy
is how close a measured value is to the actual (true) value
 Abstractness - Abstraction in mathematics is the process of extracting the underlying structures,
patterns or properties of a mathematical concept, removing any dependence on real world
objects with which it might originally have been connected, and generalizing it so that it has
wider applications or matching among other abstract descriptions of equivalent phenomena.
 Applicability - it is fairly uncontroversial that mathematics is applicable; and we can grant that
any viable philosophy of mathematics must supply a subject-matter for mathematical claims.
 Generalization - can be seen as a statement that is true for a whole category of objects; it can
be understood as the process through which we obtain a general statement; or it can be the
way to transfer knowledge from one setting to a different one.

3. What is the importance of mathematics in one's life?

Mathematics is used anywhere and everywhere. It permeates every aspect of life and every field
of work. No matter where you go, math is there. It doesn’t matter what level of math, it is always
there.Mathematics is one of the main subjects of our life. Information on math helps you make better
choices throughout everyday life, which helps make life simpler. We need mathematics as well as
computing everyday starting from shop to bank everywhere.
