Discuss for each of the 2 software packages:
WEEBLY and WIX
 1. WEEBLY:

Functionality:
Weebly is described as a Content Management System for its ability to withhold any kind of
content a user could wish for. It is a website creation service that allows a person to build their
website from the ground up. Weebly has ‘drag and drop’ abilities where you can select any
feature to add it to your website production. It has specific tabs such as build, pages, and themes
to add preset templates provided by Weebly. On the far-left side once creating an account there
is an “individual elements” section to add titles, images, separating sections, gallery photos,
videos, spacers and much more, all available for ‘drag and drop’. With these features it makes it
extremely easy for anyone to create a website of their own. No professional experience is
needed. After creating the desired aesthetic of the website all a person needs to do it click
“publish” this not only saves the work done on the website but develops a website name. This
preset name is able to be changed on the next screen. After publishing the webpage, it does not
mean the website is final. A creator can easily go back into Weebly and keep editing as much as
they want, thus making this CMS highly functioning.
Support for different business models
Since Weebly is a free website creation service it supports any business’s needs. From any
startup company to the biggest producers on the market, Weebly has the ability to provide all
website building needs for all business models.
Available business process modelling tools
Weebly provides each user with templates and guides to use for creative inspiration to model the
look of a particular business, but it is up to the creator to decide if they like the look of the preset
templates. Weebly can’t guess what a business wants their website to look like but at the
beginning of the website making process Weebly asks initial questions of what the website is for
and some different suggestions to match. With these questions Weebly can get a good idea of the
needs of the customer. If the look still isn’t what the customer wants, they are still able to start
from scratch and make their website exactly how they would want it to look.
Available visual site management tools and reporting
Site management tools are available all throughout the site. While building a website there are
‘drag and drop’ tools to create a more visually enticing site. A creator can add tabs for customers
to click to be transported to the requested site. Drop down menus to provide easy access to other
information are also available. There is an ability to make a reporting bar for any information
that others want to share.
Performance and stability
Weebly’s performance is the best of any website builder I have used. I have tried creating
websites from WIX, odoo, and SquareSpace and nothing is better than Weebly. It is by far the
easiest to navigate to make an amazing and professional looking webpage to be uploaded for the
public to see. The stability of the site can be shaky at times. For example, it tends to freeze when
publishing the site, not sure if that is just the way the Weebly functions to develop a final
product, but that is my only issue I have noticed in terms of stability. Other than that, the
performance is everything I could need to make a website.
Connectivity to existing business systems
Weebly has the ability to sync data from an existing website to another CMS like Square via the
Square Online Store, through this a user can renovate their website without having to upload all
the information manually. Users can also integrate with HubSpot to sync customer data from
HubSpot directly into a Weebly made website, thus automating the entire customer ordering
process.
Compliance with standards
Weebly website builder has strict compliance standards they must abide by. These standards are
set forth by The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). Adhering to these highly level standards
make sure the Weebly website code is the same configuration as major web browsers like
Google Chrome, Firefox, and Internet Explorer. The websites not following W3C guidelines are
displayed differently in the bigger web browsers changing the experience of the website from the
viewer.
Global and multicultural capability
Weebly’s headquarters resides in San Francisco, California but is available all over the globe for
anyone needing to produce a website. A website builder doesn’t have anything to do with
multicultural abilities besides the preset pictures given. Weebly has options for photos of all
ethnic backgrounds, skin colors, and nationalities to give any website a more diverse aesthetic.
Look for the appropriate training material for each of them and document this in your

Weebly provides its customers with a “Training Material” section on their main website to
describe all of the training employees go through while in creation of this CMS. This date allows
the customer to view and appreciate the work that goes into keeping Weebly functioning. Other
websites like Wiki have developed a web link just to show viewers how easy it is to create a
Weebly account from scratch. Wiki uploaded screenshot image pictures step by step on how to
make a Weebly website which makes it even easier for anyone interested in creating a website.

Experiment and work with one of these tools (report the problems you
encountered, the ease of use, the learning curve ...)
I experimented with the “gallery” function in the individual elements side bar. I have found it to
be a rather frustrating function on Weebly. I wanted to have 4 pictures in a square with all of the
pictures touching with no space in between but when I tried to reseize it, the function rearranged
my images. I wasn’t able to figure out how to make the gallery work in the way I wished to
while just clicking around on the site. It was most likely user error for I am not the most
technical application savvy, but I wish this function was easier to use. I ended up researching
“how to make the gallery function on Weebly to work” on google and a wide variety of videos
came up to explain how to make it work properly. Overall, the learning curve on the website
gallery function was very hard but after googling the learning curve was easy to adapt to.

 2. WIX

Functionality
WIX is a Content Management System, which means that it is “a system designed to manage the
content of a website that is used collaboratively by a number of people.” Therefore, its whole
purpose to be high functioning for others to work together to achieve a common goal. Overall, I
find the functions available by WIX to be working great, but difficult to manage. The system has
so many functions that I feel it becomes too confusing. For example, once your website has been
created, editing it to move bits and pieces to different places is difficult. Sometimes simplicity is
better than over the top.
Support for different business models
WIX has developed a website that allows every business in the world creative freedom to create
their businesses website. There are functions to add elements, site design examples, pages,
spacers and much more. From the more outrageous products lines to the simplest, WIX can
develop a business model that matches the aesthetic of the business.
Available business process modelling tools
The processing tools that WIX provides are the availability to add apps to the webpage for easy
access to customers to be taken to a different platform for more information. They also provide
media and blogging options to satisfy the preexisting social media platforms a business might
have. Keeping all of a business’s resources together for easy access to the customer might create
a separation between them and their competitors. The more information a business can provide
the happier a consumer will be and the better chance a customer will stay at one business over
another.
Available visual site management tools and reporting
WIX has many tools available once you have created your website. On the far right of the screen
there is a tool bar where you can change the rulers and gridlines to make sure everything is lining
up nicely. On the far-left side of the page there are tools to develop a more creative approach to a
company’s page. There is a button for adding menus and pages, sections, site designs and
elements. On the website page itself there are icons to change the header designs, change text
designs, move images, and rename sections.
Performance and stability
WIX overall has good performance and stability among its webpage creator site. When
developing my website for another class this year I did have some issues with waiting quite a
long time to publish. I had good internet connection but for some reason it took over a minute to
publish it. The overall is reliable as well, I can count on WIX to be up and running, I have never
had any issues with the company being under constructions and prohibiting me to creating my
page.
Connectivity to existing business systems
There are many integration sites with WIX. As described in web article “Top 10 Business
Integrations for WIX, “let’s take a dive into the pool of WIX integrations, this time focusing on
apps that will assist you in taking care of business.” The examples they give are such as, Wave,
Ecwind, Google Adsense, Mad Mimi, Site Booster, Facebook Comments, Twitter Feed, Yelp
and PayPal.
Compliance with standards
WIX has strict privacy compliances that they must abide by. It is laid out on their privacy center
webpage. They also seem to take pride in their compliance and certificates with the label of
“your data is safe with us.” Some of them are the “PCI Level 1 Merchant & Service Provider”,
“ISO 27001”, “ISO 27018”, “CCPA” and the “GDPR” which are all some ways that WIX are
excelling in standards to keep their customers information safe from scammers.
There are also websites that are not WIX that assist in making sure that their WIX website is
GDPR compliant. There are many resources to make sure that your website is following
regulations.
Global and multicultural capability
As displayed on WIX’s about us page, WIX is available in 190 countries around the world with
over 200 million plus users worldwide. They also showcase that WIX has employees from all
over the world as well, from places such as the United States, Israel, Lithuania, Germany, Brazil,
Singapore, India, Ireland, Japan, and Canada. With this many users worldwide and the amount of
reach WIX has, I would say they have reached immense global and multicultural capability.

While using WIX I encountered many problems, the biggest being the difficulty with add
pictures the way I wanted. It wouldn’t let me move the borders and put certain uploaded pictures
together. It also is hard to move sections to how I wanted. The “site design” feature was weird
too because it would only let me use 4 colors in a palette when I needed more than four. Overall,
nothing can’t be fixed without a search from google. After searching how to fix my problems,
easily found many responses and I could continue making the website. Learning curve is easy
when you have google to solve your issues for you, but if it weren’t for google the learning curve
would have been much harder

Conclusion:
Overall, both WIX and Weebly are efficient CMS systems and can be both be a reliable source
for creating a company’s website. I feel as though it comes down to the preference of the
customer to decide which CMS fits the needs of the business model more. Both are great, but
which one will get the most customer attentions for your business, that is for the induvial person
to figure out.

Reflection (what did I learn from the assignment):

My reflection has to start with the main point of this assignment, Content Management Systems.
I didn’t even know what a CMS was before this class, so to go from not knowing anything to
knowing that WIX and Weebly are CMS is a big deal. I have learned more about the free
systems available to creating websites and the differences between the two. Although WIX and
Weebly pretty much the same service, throughout this assignment it has made me appreciate one
over the other. I am more of a fan of Weebly’s simplicity then WIX’s more complex operation.
Overall, I just learned more about different kinds of websites and how each functions in its
difference ways.
