Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics VII

February 22, 2018

I. OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson 80% of the students will be able to:
a. Determine the no. of diagonals form a fixed vertex of a polygon.
b. Identify the number of triangles formed by the diagonals drawn from a fixed vertex.
c. Give the sum of the interior angles of a polygon.
d. Realized a pattern in determining the n diagonals, n triangles and n sum of interior
angles an n polygon.
II. SUBJECT MATTER:
GEOMETRY
Content standard:
The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts of geometry of shapes and
sizes, and geometric relationships.
Performance Standard:
The learner is able to create models of plane figures and formulate and solve
accurately authentic problems involving sides and angles of a polygon.

III. PROCEDURE

Teacher’s Activity Student”s Activity

A. Class Preparation

May I ask anyone to lead a prayer? Ma’am.

Yes, please. Let us all pray...

Good morning everyone! Good morning Ma’am.

Please take your seats. Thank you Ma’am.

May I ask who are not absent today? (Students answer)

Thank you.

What was our activity yesterday? We discussed about the properties of types of polygons.

What are the types of polygons? Equilateral polygons, equiangular polygons ang regular
polygons.
Very well said. Thank you.

B. Motivation:

Today, we will be engaged in finding out the sum of

interior angles of a convex polygon.
Are you ready?
Yes ma’am!
Do you have the materials I told you to bring
yesterday?
Great! Let’s start.
C. Presentation
First is in your paper, draw a triangle.
Second, draw a quadrilateral.
Third, draw a pentagon
Fourth, draw a hexagon.
Then last, draw a heptagon.
D. Analyzation
Let’s go back to the first polygon you draw, the
triangle. Using a protractor, determine the measure
of its interior angles and determine the sum of the
interior angles.
The three interior angles I got measures 45˚, 98˚ and 37˚.
How much do you got, Ana?
When I add the three angles I got 180˚
So, what would be our conclusion for that?
The sum of the interior angles of a triangle is 180˚.
You got it right!

Now let’s have the second polygon you draw, the

quadrilateral. Fix a vertex and draw diagonals from
this vertex.

How many diagonals are drawn from the fix vertex?

Only one ma’am.
How many triangles are formed by this/these
We have two triangles ma’am.
diagonals?

Without actually measuring, can you determine the

Yes ma’am. Since there are two triangles formed, and the
sum of the interior angles of a quadrilateral?
sum of the interior angles of a triangles is 180˚. Therefore,
the sum of the interior angles of a quadrilateral is 360˚
Exactly!
Let’s proceed to the third polygon you have there,
the pentagon. Now I like you to fix a vertex and draw
diagonals form that vertex.

How many diagonals are drawn from the fixed Two ma’am.
vertex?

How many triangles are formed by this/these 3 ma’am.

diagonal(s)?

Without actually measuring, can you determine the

Yes ma’am. Since there are three triangles formed, and the
sum of the interior angles of a pentagon?
sum of the interior angles of a triangles is 180˚. Therefore,
the sum of the interior angles of a pentagon is 540˚
Great!

Now, I would like you all to the same with the

hexagon and heptagon. We’ll see if you got
observations.

E. Generalization
May I ask anyone from the class of your
The number of diagonals from a fixed vertex of a polygon is

determined by subtracting the number of the sides of a
polygon to 3. Since polygon can be formed basically by three
sides.
Number of triangles formed by the diagonals from a fixed
vertex = 0 if n=3, and n-2 if n ≥ 4
Sum of interior angles = (n-2)x180
Good job everyone.

F. Application
May I ask anyone to say what was your findings in A hexagon ma’am has 3 diagonals and forms four triangles.
measuring the interior angles of hexagon and So, 180 multiplied by 4 is 720˚.
heptagon? A heptagon ma’am has 4 diagonals and forms five triangles.
So, 180 multiplied by 5 is 900˚.
We’ll done!

IV. EVALUATION
Complete the table below.

V. ASSIGNMENT:
Study you lessons, we will have a summative exam next week.
