INTRODUCTION

Bus stops are linkage between people and buses. It is a place on a road where buses stop to let

passengers on and off. Bus stop should give adequate comfort for those people who are waiting

for their turn to get on the bus. Comfort, maximum security and safety may vary in the location

and design of a bus stop. Bus stop design and layout should enable accessibility and smooth flow

for people and to the bus itself. Consideration of safety around the bus stop is a very important

consideration that is commonly neglected by the designer and the people who established.

Location is also a very important context where a proper site should be given for a certain bus

stop.

“The choice of location is primarily related to the operational performance of the bus route and

traffic, but can also be influenced by the adjacent land uses and opportunities for easy transfer

to crossing bus routes. Bus stop layout should enable safe and smooth flow of bus and

passengers. A well-designed layout of bus stop can allow passengers to board and alight without

the bus significantly impeding or delaying adjacent traffic.” (Dr. K. Gunasekaran and K.

Prathibaa, 2016)

Many of the bus stops now a days do not have facilities which include the following

components. Improper management in terms of enforcement and lack of maintenance which

sometimes result to major physical injuries and discomfort and also the lack of consistency. Enf

orcement in the bus stops in in need of action since a lot of people are prone to danger when they

are in the bus stop. Improper designation of area for people and utilities and some sometimes no

area for people nor utilities are the common problem in every bus stop.
 This Study is planned to identify planning aspects for ideal location of bus stop to increase

accessibility, to reduce the number of transfer time, necessary to make a trip and also to suggest

optimal layout to reduce the congestion and accidents occurring at bus stops. This study will also

seek alternatives for the people to have an easy access to the facility within the bus stop and this

study also seeks to improve the current bus stops situation in the chosen area of study.

OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

This case study aims to explore the current problems in the bus stop in Lanot, Roxas City. This

study focuses on the safety and comfortability of the user in the bus stop and sought to provide

solution to the identified problems.

The important objectives of this present study are:

-To understand the activities and movement of the passenger and buses in the bus stop in order to

assess the current situation and its existing problems (i.e. facilities, accessibility, safety and etc.)

- To observe and evaluate the location or the site of the bus stop regarding the roadway and

walkways with respect to the proper and beneficial planning guidelines and criteria.

-To evaluate the capacity of bus stops considering the bus operations and bus routes for present

and future period. (CERES LINER)

-To assess the safety level of the bus stop and prioritize bus stops regarding their need for safety

improvement
-To provide adequate solution to the problem in the bus stop that considers proper planning and

users’ comfortability and safety.
