Intro

Nowadays, passengers and freight couldn’t go into their destination alone but in
cluster. In order for them to reach their destination passengers need to go in Jeepney or
bus terminals. Passengers are assembled into loads to reach their final destinations
where they are dispersed.
A transport terminal is the point where a vehicle route starts or ends, where
vehicles stop, turn or reverse, and wait before departing on their return journeys. It’s
also where passengers board and alight from vehicles. It also often provides a
convenient point where services can be controlled from. With the unstoppable
increasing numbers of passengers and vehicles, centralized transportation terminals are
one of the major needs of the Department of Transportation and Communications to
lessen traffic in the community and to open spaces for transportation terminals as well
as the ease to locate such areas for the passengers.
By developing this centralized transportation terminal, stations are not only
constructed to a suitable design and with adequate capacity, but also that they are
suitably located.

RRL

In many cities there are one or more terminal bus stations in the central area. If there is
a single central bus terminal, this is convenient for passengers interchanging between
routes. However, if there are very many bus movements a single terminal may be
impractical, requiring a very large area of land, and creating congestion both within the
station itself and on surrounding streets. In large cities, there are often several
terminals, usually located around the periphery of the central area (World Bank 2006).

Passenger terminals require relatively little specific equipment. This is because

individual mobility is how passengers access busses, ferries or trains. Certainly,
services such as ticketing, shelter, food and security are required, but the layouts and
activities taking place in passenger terminals tend to be simple. They may appear
congested at certain times of the day, but the flows of people can be managed
successfully with good design of platforms and access points, and with appropriate
scheduling of arrivals and departures. The amount of time passengers spend in such
terminals tends to be brief (Rodrigue, 1998).

Transportation systems affect human society in the most significant aspects. The Policy
Guide on Surface Transportation (1997) on the American Planning Association website
states the aspects of transportation systems on human society:
• Land development and land use;
• Economic activity;
• Goods movement and trade;
• Jobs and wages for thousands of workers;
• Access to places and work, education, health care, social life, and commerce for
individuals;
• Overall livability of communities and metropolitan areas
Methodology
The research methods and materials for this study are described in this chapter. This
research uses case study methodology and a theoretical argument of space and scale
to investigate and understand importance of centralized transportation terminal in Laoag
City.
The researcher aims to study ways to develop centralized transportation terminal in
Laoag City. This paper shall encompass the following ideals;
a. Selection of space or site;
b. various scales of transit modes; and
c. policy analysis

Conclusion
Making way of the Centralized Transportation Terminal in Laoag City will help in the
congestion of transportation modes in the city tyo lessen traffic and give ease to
passengers in using public vehicles.
