COMPETITION
For this unit of work, I am producing a short film to submit to the Wimbledon
Shorts Film Festival. I have chosen to enter this competition as it is local and
has a very low entry fee. As well as this I think the guidelines of this
competition are very fair and would benefit my production. I feel as if a
competition was a better choice for me personally, as it will result in a
production that is better suited for a wide range of people as a pose to one
specific person like a client. The rules and regulations I must abide by are as
follows:

- The entrants must be 16 or over.

- The film can be no longer than 15 minutes including titles and credits
- The film must be original work of the entrants produced no later than
October 31st of 2020.
- The film must not promote a product/ company
- The film must be submitted via Film Freeway.
- Any subtitles must be embedded in the film
- Film must be submitted no later than July 19th, 2022

The top prize for winning this competition is £500 towards the film maker’s
next project.

IDEA
My production will be a psychological thriller short film. It will follow the story
of a young detective as he tries to solve a missing persons case after his life
begins to fall apart after a recent diagnosis of Amnesia. Much like all other
psychological thrillers mine too will feature a plot twist; the answers to case he
has been working himself to the bone to solve was right in front of him the
whole time… it was him all along. He just forgot.

I landed on this idea out of all others as it will challenge me the most as it is
both a medium and genre I have not worked in much. It is important to me to
challenge myself for my Final Major Project as it is the best way of showcasing
how my skills have expanded since starting this course at the Henley College.

RULES AND REGULATIONS

Along with the rules and regulations put in place by the Wimbledon Shorts
competition, there are also several guidelines put in place by the college, such
as no excessive use of profanities and no nudity.

As well as having rules and regulations to abide by, I have also set some
personal goals to follow, the first of which is to represent the illness that is
amnesia in the correct and realest way possible as I would like to be able to
inform as well as entertain. I would also like my production to follow in the
footsteps of other psychological thrillers, by leaving my audience pondering and
questioning what they have just watched.

TARGET AUDIENCE
My chosen target audience for this production is 16–24-year-olds. I have chosen
this as I feel like it is a suitable age for the psychological thriller genre. A
younger audience would not be able to understand the complex narrative and
themes that my production features, and they may not be suitable for any violent
scenes. An older audience on the other hand is far less likely to be interested in
a student short film and have very different expectations compared to someone
my own age. I think my target audience is a perfect mix of older and younger
ages, most of which are students and have similar wants and needs in what they
watch.
