Career Research Essay

A career I've always had a passion for and hope to make my own career one day would

be graphic design. After doing a lot of research and reading I got to learn a bunch of new

things. Graphic designers create graphics to meet specific commercial or promotional needs

such as packaging displays or logos. They may use a variety of mediums to achieve artistic or

decorative effects. Some responsibilities I earned that fall into the role as a graphic designer are
designing layouts for prints, publication, design layouts of art products, displays and keeping up

to date with the latest trends. Besides just the roles I also got to learn about some knowledge

and skills I should have to help me succeed in this career like knowing design, communication

and media. English language and skills with computers and electronics are also tools that one

may need.

When it comes to communication and media that means knowledge of media production,

communication and dissemination techniques and methods. This includes alternative ways to
inform and entertain via written , oral and visual media. The second skill or knowledge you

should have is design. This means knowledge of design techniques, tools and principles

involved in product or precision technical plans, blue prints, drawing and models. A third would

be the English language, knowledge of the structure and content of the English language

including spelling, composition and grammar.

After reading about all the skills ,abilities and knowledge I should have, I also got to learn

about the education I need and where to get it. Some schools that offer classes for graphic

design are San Diego State University , California Institute of the Arts , Art Center College of

Design, Laguna College of Art and Design and Chapman university. Next I researched the

education level needed for graphic design and learned you can have as high as a bachelor's

degree to not go to college at all. Some places even offer on site training. Some programs I

learned to help you also succeed in graphic design are commercial and advertising arts,

computer graphics, digital arts and graphic design.

 If the career of graphic design doesn't end up being what I expected but still want something

similar I could do related occupations. Some related occupations I learned about are special effects

artist and animator, art director, film and video editor and interior design. These jobs are very

similar because I still get to work with art and design, still get to be hands-on and create my own

work.

Some reasons I would be successful in this career is I really have a strong drive to be hands

on, creative and with graphic design. Another reason why I know I would be successful is throughout

my high school experience I got to do internships and mine were all within the graphic design field.

Doing this helped me see that graphic design is something I'm interested in, enjoy doing and now

some skills. Some strengths I have to help ensure I will succeed in their career is I am able to

multitask, take constructive criticism, pay attention to small detail and good communicator and with

electronics.
