Instructions: Write and submit your correct answers in a PDF file for the following problems.
I. Definition and Enumeration.
A. Completely state the following.
1. Counterexample - It is an example that satisfies the statement's
condition(s) but does not lead to the statement's conclusion.
2. Inclusion-Exclusion Formula - Principle of Inclusion and Exclusion
formula is given by n(A⋃B) = n(A) + n(B) – n(A⋂B).
3. Statement - A statement is a declarative sentence that is either true or
false but not both.
4. Valid Argument - An argument is considered valid if and only if in
every case where all the premises are true, the conclusion is true.
5. Weighted Voting System - A weighted voting system is characterized
by three things — the players, the weights and the quota. The voters
are the players (P1, P2, . . ., PN). N denotes the total number of
players. A player's weight (w) is the number of votes he controls.
6. Graph - Graph is a mathematical representation of a network and it
describes the relationship between lines and points. A graph consists
of some points and lines between them.
7. Planar Graph - is a graph that can be embedded in the plane, it can be
drawn on the plane in such a way that its edges intersect only at their
endpoints.
8. Perfect Natural Number - A Perfect Number N is defined as any
positive integer where the sum of its divisors minus the number itself
equals the number.
9. Empirical Rule – it is a statistical rule (also called the three-sigma rule
or the 68-95-99.7 rule) which states that, for normally distributed
data, almost all of the data will fall within three standard deviations
either side of the mean.
10. Linear Correlation Coefficient - is a number calculated from given data
that measures the strength of the linear relationship between two
variables: x and y.
B. Enumerate the following.
11. Basic Number Sets – a. Natural Numbers. f. Integers.
b. Prime numbers g. Rational numbers
c. Whole numbers. h. Irrational numbers
d. Composite numbers. i. Real numbers
e. Complex numbers
12. Fairness Criteria – a. Majority criterion. e. Pareto condition
b. Condorcet criterion
c. Monotonicity criterion
d. Irrelevant alternatives criterion
13. Early Numeration System – a. Decimal number system.
b. Binary number system
c. Octal number system
d. Hexadecimal number system
14. Measures of Central Tendency – a. Mode
b. Median
c. Mean
II. Perform the following and give the correct answer for each exercise.
(10 points for each correct answer)
15. write the negation of the conditional statement, “If I paint the house, I will get the
Money “, in its equivalent conjunctive form.
- You painted the house but you will not get the money.
16.Five different charity organizations send trucks on various routes to pick up
Donations that residents leave on their doorsteps.

Charity A covers Main St., First Ave., and State St.

Charity B covers First Ave., Second Ave., and Third Ave.
Charity C covers State St., City Dr., and Country Lane.
Charity D covers City Dr., Second Ave., and Main St.
Charity E covers Third Ave., Country Lane, and Fourth Ave.

Each charity has its truck travel down all three streets on its route on the same day, but no
Two charities wish to visit the same streets on the same day. Use graph coloring to design
A schedule for the charities. Arrange their pickup routes so that no street is visited twice
On the same day by different charities. The schedule should use the smallest possible
Number of days.
17. Determine whether 6123 is divisible by each of the following: 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, and
10. Justify your answer by the rules on divisibility.
18. Find the mean, the median, and the mode(s), if any, for the given data, 118, 105, 110,
118, 134, 155, 166, 166, 118. Round noninteger means to the nearest tenth.
- Mean = 132.2, Median = 118, Mode = 118
19. Find the range, the standard deviation, and the variance for the given samples, 5.2,
11.7, 19.1, 3.7, 8.2, 16.3. Round noninteger results to the nearest tenth.
- range: 3.7-19.1 15.4. x= 5.2+11.7+19.1+3.7 = 10.7
6
s= (10.7-5.2)²+(11.7-10.7)²+(16.3-10.7)² = 6.37
6
s= 2.52 =2.5
III. Word Problem
(15 points for each correct answer)
20. For the first half of a baseball season, a player had 92 hits out of 274 times at bat. The
Player’s batting average was 92≈ 0.336. During the second half of the season, the player
274
Had 60 hits out of 282 times at bat. The player’s batting average was 60
≈ 0.213. 282

a. What is the average (mean) of 0.336 and 0.213?

- (0.316+0.222)= 0.269

b. What is the player’s batting average for the complete season?

- 86+83 = 149= 0.268
272+284 556

c. Does the answer in part a equal the average in part b?

0.269≠0.268, this proves that the answer is no.
