Adult Financial Literacy Workshop Series

Hosted by Michigan Works! Southwest and Kalamazoo RESA

It’s no secret that the rising cost of living, inflation and interest rates are just a few factors that are
making adjusting to the changing economy more difficult to navigate than ever before. If you’re
not connected to a banking institution, facing barriers with your finances, or would just like a fresh
perspective on managing your finances, then our brand-new Adult Financial Literacy Workshop
series is the pathway to your financial freedom!

The Financial Literacy Workshop series is a result of an exciting partnership between local banking
experts and Michigan Works! Southwest Career Coaches. Both in-person and virtual workshop
sessions will be held.

Workshop Series Breakdown:


We’re offering two types of workshop sessions in this series: Financial Literacy Overview sessions
with our Career Coaches (both in-person and virtual options) and Banking Professional Led
Workshops (in-person only).

Financial Literacy Overview session led by Career Coaches


These workshop sessions are led by Career Coaches who provide attendees a financial literacy overview,
assist with mapping out a plan for financial future and job search planning. Both in-person and virtual
options are available. Check out the session dates below:

In person sessions (Kalamazoo Service Center only) Virtual sessions (all counties) and
and each take place from 3 – 4 p.m. EDT: each take place from 10 – 11 a.m. EDT:

Banking Professionals Led Workshops
These sessions will take place in-person at all four Michigan Works! Southwest Service Center,
where local banking experts will present to attendees virtually on topics such as budgeting,
improving your credit, paying off debt, mortgage and auto loans, and more! There is a virtual
option for participants not located in Kalamazoo County available. Check out the session dates
and topics below.

• May 25: Budgeting 101 – Your Income and Expenses

• June 8: Saving for Your Future

• June 22: The Dreaded Credit Score and Credit Report

• July 6: Loans 101 – A Guide for Borrowing

• July 20: Debt, AHHHHHH!

• August 3: Financial Freedom, That Sounds Nice

• August 17: Identity Theft, Don’t Become a Victim
