BODY SHAMING

Have you ever stopped and thought about how often we are told to change our
appearance? “You look so fat. You should eat less." "Oh, you should eat more, you look
like a stick." Have you ever heard these words or said them to someone? Well hear me
out.

Body shaming is a hurtful act in which someone is humiliated, mocked, or even made
fun of because of their body shape or size. Isn’t it cruel to judge someone by their
appearance? Body shaming is a serious social problem with such devastating
consequences all around the world. I'm about to share with you the impact of body
shaming and why it's harmful to society today.

To start with, body shaming makes someone feel worthless and inferior. This happens
when someone continues to degrade the victim because of their appearance. As time
passes, the victim may begin to believe that they are not good enough and may begin to
despise themselves, believing that they are ugly. Besides that, body shaming may also
lead to the destruction of one’s self-esteem. The victim might lose their confidence and
this might eventually end up in depression. Depression is no joke. When a victim is
unable to cope with depression, they will eventually develop severe mental disorders
such as anxiety, eating disorders, self-harming, or even suicide. As you can see, body
shaming is so dangerous that it can lead to death. If you're wondering what you can do
about it, remember that change comes from within. Before you say anything to anyone,
take a moment to reflect. Do not judge anyone based on their appearance, and do not
even make fun of anyone's body shape or size. Not even for fun.

And to all body shaming fighters, start loving yourself today just the way you are
because no person could love you as you love yourself. Discover the beauty of being
you. Remember it is fine to be curvy, it is also fine to be skinny. You don’t need to
always go on the society’s standard because you are already you. All you need to do is
be you. And the only thing which is not fine is to body shame others.
