Think about an academic subject that inspires you.

Describe how you have

furthered this interest inside and/or outside of the classroom.

Biology and psychology are two subjects that have truly inspired me to move
forward with my career. I have always been into science classes, since I was young I
personally thought they were the most fun classes to have. There are different types of
biology as well. In high school, I learned Earth Science, all around Biology, Microbiology,
and Biotech. Also took an AP Biology class my Junior year of high school, because of
how interested I am. Biology is what I plan on majoring in. This is also the degree I need
to have to move forward with my future career. For the next 6 years, I will be constantly
learning about biology, not just regular biology but anatomy, microbiology, etc. Already
being interested in biology will really help me with my schooling for the next few years.
Psychology has always been a subject I loved to discuss. The brain is an interesting
subject, because it does control everything, how you move, talk, and listen. Not only
does it control those three but the part of the brain that really fascinates me is the frontal
lobe. I’ve always wanted to know how your emotions work, what makes you feel the
way you do? Now that is a question I always tend to ask myself. As I got more into it, I
learned that knowing how it works can also help me with my career body language
wise. These are two subjects that I look forward to learning for the next few years, and
how they will help me with my career.

Describe the most significant challenge you have faced and the steps you have
taken to overcome this challenge. How has this challenge affected your academic
achievement?

COVID-19 was by far the hardest challenge. The reason behind why COVID-19
was the hardest challenge I faced alone was because of the schooling. When
quarantine had begun, we weren't able to go to regular in-person schooling. For that
reason we had to begin doing zoom. Just before COVID, I had already had my mind set
on dental hygiene school and was constantly looking at the best ways to achieve my
goal of being a hygienist. Always keeping in contact with my dental hygienist and having
her allow me to help her while she was working with patients, so I could get the feel of
how she does things. Eventually, I wasn't able to do any of it. I was taking two sciences
as well over zoom. Not being able to do in person labs was challenging. We had to use
websites to do our labs. AP Biology and Biotech were my main focus. I was looking
forward to those classes specifically in person because of the labs and as well as being
an in person learner has been a better choice for me. I started to not pay too much
attention in biology classes. Knowing these were my main classes, I had to force myself
to stay interested, instead of always wanting to learn it. It made me lose focus and I
eventually fell off with my career for a year because of COVID. That affected me the
worst. I started to look into different job fields because of it. Knowing that hygiene is
what I always wanted to do.

What would you say is your greatest talent or skill? How have you developed and
demonstrated that talent over time?

Since I was a little girl, I have always been surrounded by building

automotive vehicles. My family was a car family you could say. It has always
interested me to eventually have the skill my father has with building a car.
Constantly trying to help and be involved. Handing him the tools he needed,
letting me hold the flashlight while trying to loosen a bolt, and him always
explaining what he was going to do next helped me learn over the years on how
to work on a car. This is a skill to have, not many knowing how to properly work
on a car or even know much about cars. I always wanted a buliable car once I was
old enough and legal to drive. Once I did get that car, I taught myself what most
bolts are and how to do an oil change. An oil change was the first I ever taught
myself to do. Eventually over time innocents happen with the car. I have to take
half of it apart. So, without any help I took my car apart. I noticed that I really do
have a talent and love for my car. Without the help of my father, it taught me that
girls are capable of doing jobs like this and aren't afraid too. Having a hands on
skill and having to be gentle will help me with my career as well, because it is a
hands on job. Overtime, my talent for cars got better.
