AIM:
To determine the negative sequence impedance and zero sequence impedance
of alternator.
DESCRIPTION:
The negative sequence reactance of a machine is the impedance offered to the
flow of negative sequence.
The zero sequence impedance is the impedance offered by the machine to the
flow of zero sequence current.
This impedance is quite variable and depends upon the distribution (ie) the
pitch and breadth factors.
The departure from this by introducing chording and breadth factors
determine the zero sequence impedance.
However zero sequence impedance is much smaller than positive and
negative sequence impedance.
APPARATUS REQUIRED :
2. Voltmeter MI MI 1
4. 1 Ф Variac - (0-270V) 1
FORMULA USED:

Line voltage (V) Line current(A)
Average = Average =
PROCEDURE:
1. Close the DPST switch and start the DC motor using 3 point starter.
2. By adjusting the motor field rheostat the machine is driven at rated speed.
3. Now DPST switch on the alternator side is switched on and a reduced voltage
is applied to the alternators using a 1 Ф variac.
4. Since negative sequence current flow in this case, there is possibility of
hunting which will request in oscillation of the pointers of ammeters. The
mean reading of the current may be taken.
RESULT:
The negative sequence and zero sequence impedance of alternators
were determined.
