Learning Through Admiring

A lot of times when I am scrolling through instragram or tiktok there always an

influencer or creater that pops up that is doing something that interests me like sports or weight

lifting or some kind of outdoor activity. Slowly while I keep watching there videos they will

inspire me more and more to the point where I admire them, but the one person that I admire

most more then any of those influencers or creators is my dad. My dad has always been a

dedicated, passionate and hard working man. He always gives his best effort no matter what he is

doing. His work ethic proves this time and time again. This shows a different side of his

personality. This gives me a different perspective on him and it helps me learn more on how to

face day to day problems.

Everytime my dad would come home he would make a noise, either he would be talking

or whistling that he was home. I always dropped everything that was occupying me and would

run to and give him a hug. He always had a big smile on his face and you could smell his

cologne which smelled like a berry of some sort was always welcoming. His hug was like a big

pillow that warmed you up in seconds and it made me feel safe. About a year ago my dad pushed

me to start lifting to help me with sports. It was the best decision of my life and after telling him

that he started to join me. We got a membership at a local gym and started to lift. Most mornings

we will lift around five am and when we do there is always a lot of people there. Most of the

time people are doing cardio on treadmills but sometimes there lifting weights. It always feels

cramped and uncomfortable when there is a lot of people. The noise of the weights dropping,

scraping, and squeaking can get really annoying but it doesn’t effect me that much. Everytime a

pick up a weight, the feeling of the cold of the metal on my hands gives me this feeling that

pushes me to work harder. Learning this from my dad has helped me to understand what working

harder is and what it means.

This past football and basketball season I faced a lot of challenges. I struggled mentally

by bringing myself down when it was me that made mistake or when someone else ade a mistake

when it was my fault. When this happened it brought me down and would affect me for a while.

After a game either football or basketball my dad would always be there for me and would talk

to me and encourage me and tell me to keep working harder no matter what. As I am

transitioning into my senior year there will be more work to do in terms of school and sports.

Taking more college classes than junior year will be harder and it will be the last time to play and

enjoy sports. With what my dad taught me and is still teaching me, it will be easier and it will

help me through the year. I will always admire my dad no matter what because when a challenge

is put in front of me I will face it the way my dad has taught me, to never give up and to keep

pushing myself no matter what and to learn through it all.
