Foreword

IS0 (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide

federation of national standards bodies (IS0 member bodies). The work of
preparing International Standards is normally carried out through I S0
technical committees. Each member body interested in a subject for which
a technical committee has been established has the right to be represented
on that committee. International organizations, governmental and non-
governmental, in liaison with also take part in the work. I S0
collaborates closely with the International Electrotechnical Commission
ISO,

(IEC) on all matters of electrotechnical standardization.

Draft International Standards adopted by the technical committees are
circulated to the member bodies for voting. Publication as an International
Standard requires approval by at least % of the member bodies casting
a vote.

4.6.1 Proof pressu re

When tested i n accordance with IS0 1 0583:1 993, 5.1 , the test assembly shall withstand pressu re equal to twice the
nominal pressu re 3) without leakage, evidence of permanent deformation or other malfunction that might affect the
abi lity to disconnect or connect u sing the specified range of torque values. Al l specimens, except tensil e specimens,
shall be proof tested.

4.6.2 Pneumatic pressure tigh tness

When tested i n accordance with IS0 1 0583:1 993, 5.2, assemblies sh all pass the gaseous pressure test to the
specified nom inal pressure without leakage or other failure. Si x specimens shall be tested.

4.6.3 H yd rau l i c i mpul se resi stan ce

When tested i n accordance with I S 0 6772 and IS0 1 0583:1 993, 5.3, the test assembly shall withstand 200 O00
impu lse pressu re cycles without leakage. Six specimens shall be tested.

4.6.4 Mi n i m u m hydrostatic pressu re capabi l i ty

When tested i n accordance with I S 0 1 0583:1 993, 5.4, there shall be n o leakage or burst at less than th e specified
minimum bu rst pressure. Tubing expansion i s permissible. Six specimens shall be tested to failure.

4.6.5 Fl exu re resistance

4.6.5.1 Stan d ard rotary fl exure test, temperature type II, pressu re cl ass D

When tested i n accordance with I S 0 7257 an d IS0 1 0583:1 993, 5.5, test assemblies shal l not fail. Six specimens
wi th straight unions shall be tested. Bulkhead tee fitti ng connections shall match the flexure fatigue l i fe of straight
unions. Two specimens with bulkhead tees shall be tested.

4.6.5.1 .1 Basi c qu ali ficati on requi rement for testi n g to 1 07 cycles

Steel 24" con e fittings shall be used with type II, class D, cold-worked corrosi on-resistant steel tubing (material

No. 1 4 i n table A . l ) and flexu re fatigue tested to 1 35 MPa bending stress i n sizes DN1 6 and under, and 1 08 MPa in

of
O
sizes ON20 an d over to a relative tolerance -,o %.

NOTE - Under pressure and with dynamic load due to rotation, these stresses may be 1 72 MPa and 1 37 M Pa respectively.

4.6.5.1 .2 Al tern ati ve q u al i fi cati on test requi rement

Modi fi cations of 24" cone fittings, other fi tting designs, new tubing materials or other attachment methods are to be
qu al ified by comparing their fatigue l ife against that of the basic 24" cone fi ttin g by testing to 1 07 cycles, to the same
fati gu e l i fe measured i n deflection as the basic fitting. The performance of such other designs, materials or joining
methods shal l meet or exceed that of the standard 24" cone type II, class D fitting and cold-worked corrosion-

that of th e type II, cl ass D fitting.

4.6.5.3 Planar flexure test

As an alternative to th e rotary fl exu re test, th e pl an ar m eth od gi ven i n I S 0 9538 may be used.

4.6.6 R e u s e capability
