SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS - 8

Date: April 4 & 5, 2022

Time Frame: 1 hour
Grade/Section: 8 – Adamson, 8 – Watson, & 8 – Mendel

COMPETENCY:
Illustrating Triangle Congruence

I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson students should be able to:
1. Identify the corresponding parts of congruent triangles;
2. Name congruent triangles;
3. Find the measure of corresponding parts of congruent triangles; and
4. Relate triangle congruence to real life situations.

II. Subject Matter:

Topic: Solving Corresponding Parts of Congruent Triangles
Reference: Department of Education, Mathematics – Grade 8 Learners Module, First
edition, 2013, Module 4, Lesson 1, pp. 209 – 238.
Materials: Smart TV, Powerpoint, Laptop, Chalk and Cutouts of games boards
III. Procedure:
A. Daily Routinary Activities:
1. Opening Prayer
2. Greetings
3. Checking of Attendance
4. Classroom Management
5. Closing Prayer
B. Motivation/Review:
The students will form into four groups. Each group will have one representative
to join the game. They will do the activity called “Who am I?” where the participants
will have a race in identifying the corresponding triangles (Is it congruent? Or not? /
What makes them congruent?) that the teacher will show to them. Let the students read
the Scoring Rubric for the said activity so that they will be guided throughout the activity.
The first group who got the correct answer will get 5 points. The second one will get 3
points. The third group will receive 2 points. And the last group will get 1 point.
Throughout the lesson, the group that will gain the most points will win. No cellphones
are allowed during the game.

C. Analysis
The following questions will be asked:
1. Did you enjoy the activity?
2. What have you observed in our activity?
3. Based on our activity, what do you think is our topic for today?

The teacher will present the objectives of the lesson.

1. Present the lesson.
2. Illustrate and discuss how to solve the corresponding parts of the triangle.

D. Abstraction
 What did you understand about the corresponding parts of the triangle.?
 Is it difficult to identify the corresponding parts of congruent triangles? Why?
 Name the congruent triangles having the corresponding parts
 What difficulty did you encounter as you go through the lesson? What will you do
to better understand the lesson on your own?
E. Application
 What do you think is the importance or relevance of our topic in our day-to-day
living?
 Present a real-life application of the topic.

F. Evaluation

Activity 1: Giving It All! Directions: Give what is being asked in each problem.
1. Given that ∆FUN ≅ ∆DAY. List down all corresponding parts.

G.
2. Name the congruent triangles having the following corresponding parts:
H.
I.

Activity 2: Figuring It Out!

Directions: Given the following figures, find the value of the indicated variable.

J.

Activity 3. Thinking It Over

Directions: Determine whether each statement is true or false. Check the box of your answer. If
true, support it. If false, give a counter example. Write your answer on the space provided.

a. If two triangles are congruent, their perimeters are equal.

b. If two triangles have the same perimeter, they are congruent.

G. Assignment
Direction: Choose the letter of the best answer. Write the chosen letter on a separate sheet of paper.
1. Given that ∆ALS ≅ ∆BKD, what segment corresponds to AS?
a. AK b. BD c. LB d. SK

2. Given that ∆HIJ ≅ ∆LMN, what angle corresponds to ∠J?

a. ∠ H b. ∠ I c. ∠ M d. ∠ N

3. If ∆SIN ≅ ∆COS, which of the following is NOT true?

a. ∠ I ≅∠O b. ∠ S ≅ ∠C c. IN≅ OC d. NI≅ SO
4. If ∆LUV ≅ ∆YAH, then ∆HAY is congruent to ____.
a. ∆AYH b. ∆LVU c. ∆UVL d. ∆VUL

5. If ∠E ↔ ∠N, ∠V ↔ ∠S and ∠R ↔ ∠M, then ∆EVR ≅ ____.

a. ∆NSM b. ∆MNS c. ∆NSR d. ∆SRV
