VCRS – Dry at the end of Compression

COP Actual = 0.62 * COP Ideal

Capacity (kJ/s) = 28 * 1000 / 3600 (kg/s) * hfg (kJ/kg)
Power (kJ/s) = Capacity / COP actual

3
VCRS – Wet vapour at the end of Compression

COP Actual = 0.60 * COP Ideal

Power = 1 kWhr = 3600 (kJ)
Capacity (kJ) = COP actual * Power
Energy removed from 1 kg ice = 1 * 4.187 * 10 + hfg (kJ)
Mass of Ice Produced = Capacity / Energy removed per kg (kg/kWhr) 4
VCRS – SH vapour at the end of Compression

mr = Q / (h1 – h4)
Vol eff = v1 / vactual
Piston Displacement = mr * vactual = (3.14/4) * D2 * L * N

VCRS – Improvements in Simple Saturation Cycle
1. By introducing the flash chamber between the
expansion valve and the evaporator.

2. By using the accumulator or pre-cooler.

3. By subcooling the liquid refrigerant by the

vapour refrigerant.

4. By subcooling the liquid refrigerant leaving the

condenser by liquid refrigerant from the
expansion valve.
