GREAT GRAND FATHER

The generation of our family since the beginning is graduates of Education both
elementary, Secondary and even in tertiary level. That’s why I am also here now a
graduating student of Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in Social Studies, I am
the also one of the first batch of K-12 program and as of now we’re in the middle of
pandemic but still life goes on and education is a must.
Since my parents and aunts are used in using traditional way of teaching but
because of pandemic a lot of adjustment are needs to be done for the sake of the
students and education. One night while I am checking for my earphones, I saw my 53
years old Grandfather that is preparing for his class tomorrow, but as I see him, she is
recording herself using a DIY blackboard. I asked her if she wants some help with her
preparation.
Me: Hi pops, do you need some help
Pops: Oh yes, yah I’m just little confused in using google classroom and google meet
since I really don’t know a lot, I need to record myself in order for my students still easily
understand the lesson. I also do not know on how to teach like this during the actual
online class.
Me: Oh. Do you want me to help you to familiarize in using these apps and thing that
used in online class?
Pops: Really? If you don’t mind, can you please teach me about these buttons because
I am not used to it.
Me: Sure, pops it would be great if you can manage to learn this, it was more easily and
convenient but still the traditional way of teaching will never be forgotten.
Pops: Thank you so much. I really appreciate your concern.
As I start explaining to my father about how to used basic apps and buttons for online
class he was very happy and excited. Next morning, I saw my grand father using his
laptop and he also started exploring in using it.
Me: Pops how’s the class?
Pops: Reall great it was smoother and more convenient than before. Thank you
Me: No need to thank me pops, it was because of you. You managed to learn and enjoy
at the same time just like Gen Z you learn really fast.
Pops: Not really. But I really appreciate your concern about me. Since you are a kid you
have a lot of interest and gadgets like me you always explore to the things that you want
to learn. And when communicating in virtual environments, we also need the ability to
clearly express our ideas, ask relevant questions, maintain respect, and build trust is
just as important as when communicating in person.
After that Pops and I are always helping each other. He helps me to manage my time
and lessons about life and I help him to be more familiar and manage to used
technologies and other digital literacies.
