Learning Online Amid the Corona Covid-19 Pandemic

A few weeks ago our country was shocked by the spread of a disease outbreak caused by the
corona virus. Starting from the emergence of an outbreak in one city in China which then spread
to various parts of the world. At first, I myself was not so enthusiastic to see the handling of this
disease from other countries. But when I saw that Indonesia had begun to contract the COVID-
19 outbreak, it made me more careful in taking care of myself. Therefore, the government
provides guidelines for all students to study at home and practice social distancing.

With the corona virus or covid-19 pandemic, Indonesia has implemented a system of working
from home, studying from home and worshiping from home so that this pandemic does not
spread and ends soon.

Currently students have entered the third week of learning from home to prevent the spread
of Covid-19. All activities are recommended to be carried out at home because this virus can
quickly infect many people and can cause death, as well as teaching and learning activities,
starting from students and students are encouraged to study from home and assignments are
given by teachers via online .

Each school has different techniques and ways of implementing it. Some send assignments
through class WhatsApp groups, take advantage of online learning applications, and even live
learning on social media.

One of the applications of online learning through WhatsApp groups and online learning
applications was carried out by my teacher. I study at SMAN 23 Herlang which is quite far from
the city, the internet network is lacking and sometimes I have to go to a high area to get a
network. However, the teachers feel that this learning is much more effective and requires less
data when using WhatsApp so we feel much calmer, but occasionally the teacher urges us to
learn through the zoom application and this is only done once a month

Because this order is not intended for students only, but all residents including workers are
encouraged to stay at home. To connect the economy, workers implement the WFH (Work from
Home) program to avoid social relationships outside the home as a form of COVID-19
prevention, although not all workers apply this. Maybe studying at home does look fun, but for
some students including myself, studying at home is not enjoyable because we cannot understand
the material directly. There are some materials that can be understood clearly but not as easy as
when explained directly by the teacher while in class.

I really feel this impact because I feel that online learning like this is not effective, no matter
how the teacher provides learning, I still feel that online learning is lacking because it differs
when learning face to face because the interaction between students and teachers is different
from current conditions which require me and other friends study at home.

There have been many assignments given by the teacher and I worked on them one by one
and then collected them. Even though I was given time to collect, my assignments still piled up
because the assignments given by the teacher were 2x more than face-to-face schools. After
finishing work, there is another new task given and homework piles up.

As a dutiful child, I had to do what my parents told me to do, so sometimes my task was
neglected and sometimes the network was lost when I wanted to send it. Makes my value
decrease because I collect it late. Even so, I am still learning to achieve my goals.

Some of the assignments given are through learning applications and some are through
WhatsApp. If I can't do it or I don't understand, I usually look on the internet and read the
textbooks that have been given to me from school, but sometimes I don't understand the
explanations on the internet. This makes me always ask the teacher what I don't understand, and
usually the teacher's reply is late and I have to wait for it again.

And when doing math assignments, I sometimes ask my mother for help to do it because
there are materials that I don't understand.

But if we know the formula it can make it easier for us to do it. And sometimes the sample
questions and practice questions are different. In doing so, we must be careful because if the sign
is wrong or miscalculated, the answers we get will be different.

Studying at home is a little fun because you can do it while playing. But also sometimes
boring because of the many tasks given. We have started learning from home since March 16,
2020, since I have been studying at home for more than 1 year. Initially the work from home
policy was only set for 2 weeks but was extended because this virus outbreak was getting worse
and took many victims.

Due to this virus, my family and I often spend time together and sometimes I also ask for
help in doing assignments. After doing the tasks that have been given, I usually watch TV or
play on my cellphone.

Many people complain that online schools are due to the large number of assignments given
and the time collected is too fast. My tutoring activities are also carried out at home.

Every day there is always a new task that is given, and I usually don't do it right away
because I am still working on the previous task.

If all my tasks have been completed and there is nothing I can do if I don't play on my
cellphone, I usually make cakes and are helped by my mother

The principal together with the teacher must calculate the distribution of assignments for
each subject in each class. As a principal, the principal must design the task cycle given by the
teacher.

Giving assignments gradually makes learning more understandable to children. The

possibility of children understanding more deeply on each topic is greater. Giving assignments in
stages also makes it easier for teachers to organize material and check regularly.
 Teachers who educate with heart will be able to feel the burden of their students. Here the
teacher needs to invite students to reflect on learning at home. Especially to get input and
improve the learning process at home.

The task of the teacher at this time is to help the government so that students stay healthy in
the midst of the Covid 19 outbreak. Social distancing makes them unable to study together, the
teacher must design assignments so that students can feel they are relaxing at home. For
example, replace the task of summarizing by making a mind map of what you read. Making
mind maps will teach students to interpret reading without being forced. Students' imagination
and creativity will develop and can make them happy. Happy assignments can also be started by
giving options or choices of activities so that students can choose the type of activity they like
the most to do.

though the network is lacking.

Don't let students feel alone in going through independent study days. Teachers can build
togetherness and show that teachers are also learning, just as they are always adding knowledge.
Accompanying with the heart can also be by building togetherness with online meetings to
discuss assignments or discuss daily activities. Help students to take advantage of the study
period at home to build closeness with family and increase worship. So that they can pass this
difficult day in breaking the chain of Covid-19 transmission happily.
 Due to this virus, my family and I often spend time together and sometimes I also ask for

And also studying from home sometimes makes me bored, I miss my friends. But the
situation is very unlikely. I hope things get better soon and get back to normal.

Mrs. Tasya is my homeroom teacher and very good teacher in giving assignments and her
explanations are also very understandable.

As a homeroom teacher, she recounts that only more than half of her students have cell
phones, but the problem doesn't end there.

"Not to mention, on average, children come from low-income families, so even though they
have a cellphone, they don't have an internet package," said Siti to Erwin Renaldi.

Currently, the madrasa can only rely on the WhatsApp platform because it is considered the
simplest and does not require much internet data.

According to him, the face-to-face method makes students more focused and easy to
understand the lesson.

Therefore, the teaching and learning process that he has carried out for the past three months
is not optimal because he can only provide two subjects per day.
 Although lessons are delivered with the help of technology, sometimes there are technical
problems such as signal interference, or other disturbances such as home situations that are not
ideal for digesting lessons.

However, he feels that his biggest challenge at the moment is how to keep the spirit of his
students in these non-ideal conditions.

Likewise, conditions in Herlan, as told by Siti, not all teachers have the same ability to adapt
to the use of technology.

Meanwhile in Kajang, Helga suggested the need for trainings to improve the ability to master
information technology so that the ability of teachers to become more evenly distributed.

Ubaid from the Indonesian Education Monitoring Network hopes that the current corona
virus pandemic can encourage the government to improve teacher competence.

"It is a momentum to upgrade the competence of teachers to be able to carry out flexible,
creative and innovative learning processes," said Ubaid.

I hope that this COVID-19 pandemic will end soon and I will go to school as normal and
return to socializing with my friends.
