With the ongoing pandemic of Covid-19, it is certainly affect us as student because of the
precaution to decrease the rate of transmission of the virus, the step that the government took
which is social distancing surely impact how we are studying, we are not going to school to
learn in classes as usual but now we are staying at home to study which is online learning or as
we know e-learning. The policy that was taken by the government is wise to stop the spread of
the Covid-19.

We can see that the virus is very deadly, even our national examinations where our seniors
have worked hard and dedicating hours and hours of studying to get a good score on the exam
which are taken each year normally and has a high value on our education are dismissed by the
president of Indonesia himself. The issues of Covid-19 bring and impact us as students are very
significant to none.

Online learning has been discovered since 1999, the pandemic causes the phenomenal growth
of online education, it is implemented in a lot of country such as United States of America, India
and our country, Indonesia. Our school, Sekolah Mondial has implemented online learning since
March. Now, who won’t be thrilled and excited when we are told that we are no longer need to
go to school to study and you can just study at home? OF COURSE, EVERYBODY, but little do we
know that excitement backfire and hit us on the face like a boomerang. We think that we can
have a lot of free time to find a new hobby such as, watching movies, playing basketball or even
coding, because every time we want to do that kind of stuff the thing that are blocking us is the
conventional full-day school and even though we have time for that we are exhausted because
of the time that we spent studying for morning to evening. BUT NO! IT IS VASTLY DIFFERENT
FROM OUR EXPECTATION.

That boomerang backfire us faster than we expected, as soon as the first week of the
implementation of these online classes, we as student are working very hard, relentless hours.
That excitement are no longer there and vanish by the work that the teachers gave to us, some
teacher won’t even consider how much we have done for a day and they keep throwing bricks
of homework or assignment to us like it was nothing. The first two weeks of online classes are
hectic and uncontrollable

But still the load management of assignments is too much, why? Because in normal classes,
they won’t give us that much homework, the teachers think we don’t have anything to do
because we are at home and they can give a lot of assignment, they think that we will play
games or others, but neither that they know the homework that they are giving are way too
much and a class session of 45 minutes is not enough to finish the task, at this time I need to
stay up late just to finish the homework that the teachers given due on time and this is why I
think the first two weeks of online classes are very hectic.

Indonesia has a lot of uneducated minors, by the time that this pandemic is ongoing this
problem are keep increasing because of those people who live in remote places that doesn’t
have the connection of internet are not able to do these type of online classes and even the
one that have internet connection like us in Batam, we have a problem where the internet is so
slow, because a lot of people who are doing social distancing are at home playing their phone
24/7. This cause us to not be able to join the live session that the teacher are giving through
apps such as Skype and Zoom and even though we can join, sometimes we can’t clearly hear
what the teacher are discussing because of the slow internet that we have. The disadvantages
of this online class are it is too dependent on how fast an internet can be.

Even though, there are a lot of disadvantages of online learning, it is not justifiable to neglect to
benefits because we as student, our duty is to study and we can’t complain much because this
crisis not only affect we as student but also the other people like teacher and company. We
know that the teacher was of course also human and they need to adapt first and as it goes on,
it will get better. They were trying to find the best way to teach us as student to still get the
knowledge even thouy6ugh on such time like this crisis. Because as a good teacher can be in a
normal classes, they don’t have enough experience on monitoring & teaching an online class,
but looking at the brighter side, we still can gain knowledge where we can’t see each other on
the middle of this pandemic. Eventually, when teachers already have a bit of good experience
on e-learning, we can see that this as an effective way to learn where if the lesson are recorded
we can replay the video and watch it until we understand. Besides that, we can wake up 2
minutes before a class and eating in a class right? We must see more on the bright side rather
than the negative side right now.

Online learning where we are studying at home also trains our time-management skills and our
self-discipline because studying online requires more self-motivation and time-management
skills, because you will spend a lot of time on your own without someone physically close to
keep you focused on deadline, because nobody is going to monitor that for you on our house.
So look at it this way,

our online class not only teaches us biology or math, it will also help us to be independent and
self-motivated and that type of attitude is good for our future. We need to see more on the
bright side rather than the negative side.
As the start of week 3 and 4, these online class are starting to get more familiar, the teacher are
starting to find ways to teach the students and now it is more controllable and manageable. But
as we know, there is the best for both of us which I believe the app Google classroom provides
even the government are suggesting that we use Google classroom as a platform to study. We
normally submit our task from email but sometimes we sent the wrong task and the teacher
won’t even care and I prefer the app Google classroom since it’s easy to use and I would like to
suggest some point. First, we can have exam by a lot of apps such as Quizziz, Google docs and
question and answer through a group via line or Whatsapp but I think it’s reasonable to tell
when we are going to take the test and not say it hours prior before the test. Second, teachers
can give us assignment but with reasonable due date not within hours. Third, we can discuss
live lesson through Zoom or Skype. Finally, teacher can’t give any assignment or even live
classes if they don’t have any classes on that day because it is not logical to give task when you
don’t have a class session at that day.

That’s all from me about online learning, I’m Stefano from X IPA A and hope everybody stay
healthy during this crisis. Thank You!
