Background Information for Learners

Participation in sport and recreation activities can reduce stress, anxiety and depression.
Participation in group recreation provides a sense of value, belonging and attachment. According
to Bandura’s social cognitive theory, behaviour is shaped by the interaction between individual
and environmental factors. This theory emphasizes the influence of social interaction in relation
to behaviour. There are both direct and indirect links between participation in group activity and
mental health. Thus, participation in organized sport and recreation can be a preventative and
curative strategy to promote positive mental health and combat mental illness. This supports the
development and maintenance of organized sport and recreational activities in the community.
These programs should be socially and culturally appropriate and should take into account
mediating factors that increase adherence to physical activity programs.

In participating recreational activity, there are things to consider.

a. Exercising alone as elf-motivated. A good option even busy schedule that sometime
prevent from planning a regular time to be active every day.
b. Training buddy. More likely to commit to a physical activity routine if doing with
someone else. Doing the activity with simple race may motivate to move.
c. Team’s sports and group physical activity programs. The organized activities that offer
the chance to widen the social circle.

Background Information for Learners

Successful adventure has something to do with planning which will be the foundation for fruitful
and fun adventure. The level of planning required depends on lots of factors, including; weather
forecast, experience, the intended route, etc. The common things to consider when planning an
adventure are location, the number of days, travel conditions, budget, transportation and
unexpected circumstances you will encounter in the adventure.

Steps in planning an outdoor event

1. Prepare the group. A survey of who will be part of the group you want to join with. A
team that will gather to talk and come up with the plan. Include schedule, location,
budget, transportation and many more.
2. Have a Meal Plan. Consider the kind of meals that are nutritious, appealing at altitudes,
easy and efficient to prepare, and that minimize the weight carried up and waste carried
out.
3. Waste disposal strategy: Check the local policies on disposing the waste. Plan on how to
meet the policy. An effective manner using biodegradable doggy bags to get your waste
off of the mountain.
4. Take Responsibility: Give the information to the team everything they need to succeed on
the climb and in the duty to do climb responsibly.

A major factor in planning is communication. It is giving the information on why and how to
environmental practices. Climbers should aware of better practices care the environment to avoid
damage. Effectively communicating of what to do and why to do will minimize to destroy the
plants and animals in the mountain. Effective communication made reduce of the bad impact on
mountain environments and has led to better equipped expeditions and more enjoyable climbing
experience.
