College Research Reflection

1. List the campuses you plan on applying to or have already applied to. Highlight the three most
important criteria you used in determining where to apply.

The two colleges I plan to apply to are San Diego City College and San Diego Mesa College. The most
important criteria that helped me decide where to apply was distance from home, availability of my
intended major and necessary courses, And the ability and ease to transfer to a four-year university.

2. Which campus is the one you would most like to attend? Explain why this campus is your first
choice compared to the others.

The campus I would most like to attend is San Diego Mesa College because of the courses they offer.
Although both Mesa and City have good art programs, Mesa has a program more specific to graphic
design.

3. What will be your intended education goal? How does this goal relate to your chosen career?
What resources do these campuses have to support you in this career field?

My intended education goal is to earn my associate’s degree in arts at Mesa College. I will then be able
to transfer to a university to get my bachelor’s degree in graphic design. This will allow me to pursue a
career as a graphic designer. Mesa College provides counseling services that can help me transfer.

4. How do the costs of attendance compare at each campus? How do you plan to cover the costs of
attendance if you are accepted?

The cost for both colleges is the same. Each costs $44 per unit. I plan on completing the FAFSA
application for financial aid, as well as the Promise Grant for a tuition fee waiver.

5. Do you plan on transferring to a four year college? If so, which campuses are you interested in
transferring to?

Yes, I am planning on transferring to a four year college. I am interested in transferring to the University
of San Diego. There I will be able to get my bachelors degree in graphic design.
6. Are there transfer agreements available? If so, which agreements do you plan to use to
successfully transfer? What are the requirements of these agreements?

There is a transfer agreement available to USD. I am confident I can meet these requirements. The
University of San Diego requirements include completing a minimum of 24 semester units and having a
GPA of 3.0 or higher. There are also specific course requirements that a counselor at Mesa can help me
figure out.

7. Which classes are transferable from the community college you plan to attend to the campus you
plan to transfer to? Are there classes that will not transfer?

Classes such as Artists Inquiry are transferable and are related to the major I'm interested in. I did not
find classes that I need to take that are not transferable, but there might be a few electives that aren’t.
