Basic Training for Airport Security

Personnel – 5 Days

INTRODUCTION

The course, followed by a minimum of six months of practical experience working


under the guidance of a qualified AVSEC supervisor in the field, will train basic
airport security personnel to enforce, monitor and apply airport security
preventative measures in accordance with locally approved programmes.

Target groups

The target population will be new entrants and existing personnel at the basic level
employed by the authority or organization primarily responsible for the application of
aviation security preventative measures at airports and from such other aviation related
agencies engaged in support activities.

Learning Objectives

The course has been designed to enable selected security personnel to:

a) Work in and move about an airport safely;

b) Communicate and cooperate with other airport agencies;

c) Control the movement of people and vehicles;

d) Guard and patrol airport vulnerable areas, facilities and aircraft;

e) Recognize weapons and explosive/incendiary devices;

f) Inspect/screen/search passengers and baggage;

g) Respond to airport emergency situations; and

h) Escort people and consignments.

Duration

5 Days – Each training day will commence at 09.00 and finish at 17.00,
with appropriate refreshment breaks.
