Question 19. Below is the IPv4 properties window on which the IP address,
subnet mask, default gateway and DNS server addresses can be manually
configured on a local computer which is using Windows 7 operating system.
What steps would you follow to get to this window and how would you
manually configure those IP addresses? /15 Marks
Marking scheme:

Steps are as follows:

 Click on ‘Start’ – ‘Control Panel’–‘Network and Internet’ – ‘Network
and Sharing Center’ /3
marks
 Under ‘View your active networks’, click on ‘Local Area Connection’ or
‘Wireless network connection’(If you are using a wireless connection)
/ 3 marks
 A ‘Local Area Connection Status’ or ‘Wireless Network Connection
Status’window opens, click on ‘Properties’.
/ 3 marks
 A ‘Local Area Connection Properties’ or ‘Wireless Network
Connection Properties’ window opens. On ‘Networking’ tab, select ‘Internet
protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4)’ item then click on ‘Properties’.
/ 3 marks
 An ‘Internet Protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4) Properties’ window opens.
Check the ‘Use the following IP address’ option and input the IP address,
Subnet mask and Default gateway in their corresponding fields.
Check the ‘Use the following DNS server addresses’ option and input the
‘Preferred DNS server’ and the ‘Alternate DNS server’ (if it exists)

Question 20. Subnet the class c ip address 195.1.1.0 so that you have 10
subnets each with a maximum 12 hosts on each subnet. List the address on
host 1 on subnet 0,1,2,3,10. /15 Marks
Marking scheme:
Current mask= 255.255.255.0
Bits needs for 10 subnets =4 =24 =16 possible subnets
Bits needs for 12 hosts = 4 = 24  = 16-2=14 possible hosts.
So our mask in binary =11110000= 240 decimal
Final Mask =255.255.255.240
Hosts on subnets 0,1,2,3,10
 Subnet 0 host 1 IP address =195.1.1.1 /3 Marks
 Subnet 1 host 1 IP address =195.1.1.17 /3 Marks
 Subnet 2 host 1 IP address =195.1.1.33 /3 Marks
 Subnet 3 host 1 IP address =195.1.1.49 /3 Marks
 Subnet 10 host 1 IP address =195.1.1.161 /3 Marks
