What is Obesity?
Obesity is a complex disease involving an excessive amount of body fat. It occurs when you take in more calories than you
burn through normal daily activities and exercise.
Globally, there has been:
An increased intake of energy-dense foods that are high in fat and sugars.
An increase in physical inactivity due to the increasingly sedentary nature of many forms of work, changing modes of
transportation, and increasing urbanization.
As a result, overweight and obesity are linked to more deaths worldwide.

How do I reduce my risk of developing obesity?


On a personal level, you can help prevent weight gain and
obesity in yourself and your family by making healthier
lifestyle choices:
Moderate exercise like walking, swimming, or biking
for 20 to 30 minutes every day.
Eat well by choosing nutritious foods, like fruits,
vegetables, whole grains, and lean protein.
Eat high-fat, high-calorie foods in moderation.
Include low-fat or non-fat milk or dairy products,
including cheese and yogurt.
Ensure sufficient water consumption
Stay away from carbonated drinks/artificially
flavored juices
Ensure you and your family are getting adequate
sleep
Destress via meditation, hobbies, communicating
with friends etc.
Seek treatment for possible underlying mental
health concerns like depression, anxiety etc.

Obesity can diminish the overall quality of life. It is thus essential that
we take adequate steps in time to protect ourselves and our families
