There was – There were
Grammar focus
When we want to talk about something that existed in the past we can use “There was”
or “There were”:
We use there was when we are talking about just one person or thing, we use it with singular
nouns. Example: In my school there was a basketball court.
We use there were when we are talking about more than one person or thing, we use it with
plural nouns. Example: There were 8 apples on the table last night.
For the negative form we use: There wasn’t and There weren’t.
For the question form we change the position: “Was there…?” and “Were there…?”

These are the most common verbs to talk about sports.
We use “do” for sports we do individually and not in a team. We do use to talk about martial
arts, sports and exercise
We use “go” when the sport ends in “ing”.
We use “play” with team sports. They usually need a ball or something similar to play it with.

joint winners of the FIFA Player of the Century award. That same year, Pelé was
elected Athlete of the Century by the International Olympic Committee and was included in the
Time list of the 100 most important people of the 20th century.
