Part I- ESSAY WRITING (40%)

Traditionally, the teaching of mathematics is always centered on the teacher and students
are just passive learners. Many mathematics educators and teachers believe that the
constructivist approach is a better approach for the teaching and learning of mathematics.

In this assignment, you are required to carry out the following main tasks:

1. Explain clearly what is meant by constructivist approach and how is it different from
the traditional teacher-centered approach. Use examples to illustrate the differences
whenever necessary.

2. Write a literature review to support the use of constructivist approach in the
teaching and learning of mathematics at primary school level.
3. Design a lesson plan using the constructivist approach for any topic of your choice in
elementary mathematics.

Prepare a written report supported by relevant documents using a suitable format.

Pengajaran matematik secara tradisional adalah berpusatkan guru manakala pelajar hanya

adalah satu pendekatan yang lebih baik untuk pengajaran dan pembelajaran matematik.

Dalam tugasan ini, anda dikehendaki untuk menjalankan tugas berikut:

1. Terangkan dengan jelas apa yang dimaksudkan dengan pendekatan konstruktivis dan
bagaimana ia berbeza daripada pendekatan berpusatkan guru secara tradisional.
Gunakan contoh-contoh untuk menggambarkan perbezaan pada mana-mana
bahagian yang perlu.
2. Tulis satu kajian literatur untuk menyokong penggunaan pendekatan konstruktivis
dalam pengajaran dan pembelajaran matematik diperingkat sekolah rendah.
