Chapter: Linear Equation Total marks: 35 Time: 60 minutes

Questions 1 to 4 carry 2 marks, 5 to 9 carry 3 marks, 10 to 12 carry 4 marks each.

1. Solve for x and y: (a) 71x + 37y = 253 (b) 37x + 71y = 287
9 4 13 7
2. Solve for x and y: (a) − =8 (b) + =101
x y x y
3. Solve for x and y: (a) x+y = 5xy (b) 3x+2y = 13xy
4. Solve for x and y: (a) 0.4x + 0.3y = 1.7 (b) 0.7x – 0.2y = 0.8
5. Find k such that the equations x–2y = 3 and 3x+ky = 1 has a unique
solution.
6. Find m and n such that 3x+4y = 12 and (m+n)x + 2(m–n)y = 5m–1 have
infinitely many solutions.
7. Draw the graph of 2x+3y = 2 and x–2y = 8 and find the point of
intersection.
8. Draw the graphs of the equations x – y + 1 = 0 and 3x + 2y – 12 = 0.
Determine the coordinates of the vertices of the triangle formed by these
lines and the x-axis, and shade the triangular region.
9. Places A and B are 80km apart from each other on a highway. A car starts
from A and another from B at the same time. If they move in same
direction they meet in 8 hours and if they move in opposite directions,
they meet in 1 hour 20 minutes. Find the speed of both cars.
10. Two numbers differ by 8 and difference of their reciprocals is 2/5. Find
the numbers.
11. A train covered a certain distance at a uniform speed. If the train had been
10 km/h faster, it would have taken 2 hours less than the scheduled time.
And, if the train were slower by 10 km/h; it would have taken 3 hours
more than the scheduled time. Find the distance covered by the train.
12. In ∆ABC, ∠ C = 3 ∠B=2(∠ A+∠ B). Find the three angles.
