1. (a) Draw the Port timing diagram of the given two stroke engine model and observe the different
readings of opening and closing of ports. (60)

(b) Determine the Flash and Fire point of given fuel using open /closed cup apparatus. (40)

2. Conduct the performance test on a diesel engine at 20%, 40%, 60% & 80% of different loads using
Mechanical Loading. Determine Brake Power, Indicated Power, Mechanical Efficiency, Brake
Thermal Efficiency, Specific Fuel Consumption and TSFC. Determine friction power using
Willan’s line method. Draw the graph for SFC, ηBT, ηMech vs. BP. Tabulate the results. (100)

3. Conduct the heat balance test on a diesel engine at 0%, 20%, 40%, 60% & 80% of different loads.
Draw up the heat balance sheet. (100)

4. Conduct the Morse test on multi-cylinder petrol engine and determine Friction power and
Mechanical efficiency in the each cylinder of the engine and tabulate the results. (100)

5. Determine the Mechanical efficiency of Single Cylinder Slow Speed diesel engine by conducting
Retardation test. Apply 25% of maximum load. Tabulate your results. (100)

6. (a) Draw the Valve timing diagram of the given four stroke engine model and observe the different
readings of opening and closing of valves. (60)

(b) Determine the Flash and Fire point of given fuel using open /closed cup apparatus. (40)

7. Conduct the performance test on Steam boiler. Determine Evaporative capacity, Equivalent
evaporation, Factor of evaporation and Boiler efficiency. Tabulate the results. (100)

8. Conduct the performance test on Steam turbine. Determine Mechanical efficiency, Brake Thermal
Efficiency, Rankine Efficiency & Specific Steam Consumption. (100)

9. (a) Draw the Valve timing diagram of four stroke engine observing opening and closing of inlet
and exhaust valves. Also draw the theoretical port timing diagram of two stroke engine. (70)

(b) Explain briefly about the steam generators and steam turbines, discuss its types with the help of
a neat sketch explain any one of the steam generator. (30)

10. Conduct the performance test on a diesel engine at 20%, 40%, 60% & 80% of different loads using
Electrical Loading. Determine Brake Power, Indicated Power, Mechanical Efficiency, Brake
Thermal Efficiency, Specific Fuel Consumption and TSFC. Determine friction power using
Willan’s line method. Draw the graph for SFC, ηBT, ηMech vs. BP. Tabulate the results. (100)

11. Determine the thermal conductivity of the given test specimen using guarded plate method using
guarded plate apparatus. (100)

12. Determine the thermal conductivity of the pipe insulation material using lagged pipe Apparatus and
estimate the thermal conductivity for different heat inputs. (100)

13. Determine surface heat transfer co- efficient, local heat transfer co-efficient along the length of the
tube and also to draw the graph between local heat transfer co-efficient and distance along the
length of the tube under the natural convection mode. (100)

14. Determine the heat transfer coefficient on the given forced convection inside tube apparatus with
variable air flow rate and at constant heat input. (100)

15. Determine the thermal conductivity of the given composite wall using composite wall apparatus.

16. Determine the thermal conductivity of the given insulating powder using the insulating powder
apparatus. (100)

17. Determine the convection heat transfer coefficient and efficiency of a short pin-fin losing heat to
ambient air in both natural and forced circulation mode. Calculate the convection heat transfer
coefficient for different rate of heat inputs. Plot the variation of temperature along the length of the
pin-fin from the base plate in graphical form. (100)

18. Determine the Stefan-Boltzmann constant in a radiation heat transfer process and verify your result
with the known value of σ = 5.67 X 10-8 W/m2K4. (100)

19. Determine the emissivity of the given test plates using emissivity measurement apparatus by giving
a specific heat inputs. (100)

20. Compare the heat transfer rate, LMTD, overall heat transfer coefficient and effectiveness of a
parallel flow and counter flow heat exchanger for the same mass flow rate of both the fluids. Plot
the graph between the temperatures along the length of the heat exchanger tube. (100)

21. Conduct the performance analysis on a refrigeration test rig and determine the actual COP of the
system. Also calculate Carnot COP and Relative COP from the temperature and pressure taken
from the system. (100)

22. Conduct the performance test on an air conditioning test rig and determine the refrigeration effect,
actual COP and theoretical COP of the system. (100)

23. Conduct the performance test on a single / two stage air compressor unit and determine its
volumetric efficiency and overall efficiency of the compressor. Also plot the graph between actual
discharge and volumetric efficiency of the compressor. (100)

24. Conduct the performance test on a HC refrigeration system and determine the actual COP. Also
calculate the theoretical COP from pressure – enthalpy (p-h) chart. (100)

25. Conduct the performance test on a fluidized bed cooling tower unit and determine its overall
efficiency of the cooling tower. (100)
