An understanding of the research process is important so that we can carry out research effectively.

First, we have to define research problem which is the first and foremost task because this is of primary
concern to researchers. Next is to review the literature, encompasses review concepts and theories and
review research findings, which is an integral part of the process as it enables the researchers to
formulate the problem in terms of the specific aspects of the general area of their interest that has not
been so far researched. Next is to formulate hypothesis to have statements that assert a possible
answer to a research question. Next is to design research which specifies the methods and procedures
for collecting and analyzing collected data and to decide on the sample design which refers to the
methods to be followed in selecting a sample from the population. Next is to collect data which may
range from simple observation to a large-scale survey in any defined population. Next is to analyze data
that usually involves reducing data, developing summaries, and applying techniques for understanding
and interpreting the findings. Lastly, to interpret and report which is the end goal of the study that
involves preparing the report and transmitting the findings.
