ASSIGNMENT: UNDERSTANDING THE SELF

“YOU” Through Others’ Eye

This activity has two parts that try to compare how we look at ourselves against
how people perceive us depending on how we present ourselves to them. For the first
part, list ten to fifteen (10-15) qualities or things that you think define who you are around
your picture.

 For the second part, in the space below, write “I am ____________________ (your
name). Message your classmates or friends on what do they think you are, based on what
they see you do or hear you say? Make at least 10 or more persons to answers this and
make sure it contains both positive and negative things they observed in you. As you fill
out the paper of your classmates, write briefly and only those that you observe about a
person. Do not use any bad words and do not write your name.

1. I reasonably assume you as a person who was tough to communicate to because your aura was
so mysterious, specifically to all those who didn't actually know you well. It's easy to criticize
somebody or something relying on their appearance or self-image, but it's hard to ascertain a book
by its cover unless you know there own true color. Furthermore, considering the way you act and
interact, I believe you can be a terrific friend to anyone.

2. I consider myself to be the luckiest man alive since I have a girlfriend like you. Because you are
polite, amusing, humble, simple, bold, and most importantly, beautiful. Others may think that you
are, unpleasant or stubborn at first glance, but they don't realize that the attitude and behavior you
have is different to me; you are the type of woman who is simple, eventhough you don’t have
make-up you’re still beautiful; you’re kind and lovely as well. But sometimes you’re just short-
tempered and easily get angry. You can carry yourself confidently which I truly admire. I also love
when you set your mind in one goal and you don’t give up until you get it. You’re also responsible
on the things you want and how you treasure things. I love the way you give importance to all the
people who is close to you. And, most importantly, you don't oblige me to withdraw money when I
leave or date you, even if you're the one who spends it okay.

3. No wonder we instantly became friends when we met during our junior year. You are easy to get
along with. You have a chill personality, fond of doing things on your own. Cheerful and talkative
(not all the time) but one thing is for sure, you are loud when with your closest and when we are at
our happiest moments. Always well-dressed. Indeed, you have a good fashion sense. You are
smart and always feeling confident (I admire you for that). You also have natural fair skin which
definitely suits your beauty. Looking back, I noticed how well-organized a person you are, your
things are always well-arranged and clean. You are clingy, but then I also remember how sudden
your mood can change (the always matampuhin).

4. I see you as someone who is strong enough to fight every demons who'll come your way.

5. Remea Mae used to be my classmate when I was in senior high and I find her intimidating that is
why when the class started I always keep my distance away from her when interacting with others.
And I was wrong, Remea Mae is a great person who has a great personality which makes her
stand out to others, she might look like 'masungit' 'mataray' but that's one of a hell good
personality of hers. She's a bit short-tempered but tolerable, a kind of naughty and loud person,
and an easy-going type of friend what I mean is she can interact with anyone without a problem
because of her diverse personality. But overall she is smart, courageous, and supportive friend of
ours.

6. I think you are an amazing person both inside and out. You always make the people around
you wanted and loved. I heard you are a talkative person and I guess you really are, from the
moment I was able to socialize with you. All in all, what I perceived about you is the same as
what I always heard from our common friends.

7. Since when we're grade 8 I know you already naman. But my first impression to you is very
goal digger ka in a good way. Whatever circumstances you go through, you will really fight to
get what you deserve. But of course I still hear others say that you like mataray raw then
sometimes you forget what is right and wrong. I know that's the opinion of others so I'll listen to
it but as I've known you for a long time I know everything about you, not very complete at least
I have an idea what you've go through the years.

8. I always see myself as a person who have a smaller group of friends and as a grow older i
realize that having you in that circle makes it veritable. Whenever i see the moon it always
reminded me the good times of our night walks after school and it signifies how we are
carelessly thinking what tomorrow will bring and I guess it is always one of the memories that
will be treasured.

with. I don't see any negative side of her. She's too nice to have one.

12. Hi Remea! When we first met, my impression of you was that you were approachable. I knew,

13. In the day that I felt your presence as my classmate and making some happiness connection
which happened in our project in the subject of GEKOMFIL, after those scenarios, I would say
that you're jolly, friendly, responsible, passionate in every kind of task or activities, and you're

ANALYSIS:
Compare what you wrote about yourself to those written by your classmates. What
aspects are similar and which are not? What aspects are always true to you? What
aspects are sometimes true or circumstantial? What aspect do you think are not really
part of your personality? Write your answer below.

1. According to my bestfriend Fatima S. that I am mysterious to look at, at first and to all people
who don’t know me. I agree that I have this intimidating aura around me when you still don’t
know me. But as you know me, or as the time goes by I’m great friend as what she said.
2. Next is according to my boyfriend Jans B., I’m humble, kind and responsible which is true and
I agree to that. But according to him, people will always have the impression that I’m
unpleasant or rather I would say “intimidating”. I also agree that sometimes I’m short-
tempered which is true especially when I am at that time of the month. I’m responsible and
independent, that I don’t let a man pay for me. I’m also reliable friend and I truly treasure the
people around me.
3. My friend Kyla V. is one of my closest friend and according to her I’m easily to get along which
is true, when you truly get to know me and when we clicked I am a kind of friend that will be
always there for you. I’m cheerful and talkative sometimes when I’m with the people I’m
comfortable with. She also said that I’m confident, well I agree to that especially when I’m
comfortable and love to what I wear. She also highlighted that I’m “matampuhin” which is true
I’m the kind of friend that clingy but when I see something or to be jealous of.
4. Next is according to Hannah Lei F. my closest friend she sees me as strong and a feisty
woman which also gives the impression to others that I’m intimidating. I also agreed that I
don’t sugarcoat words that I will tell to you eventhough you’re my friend. I’m a kind of person
who is direct to the point even I can hurt your feelings.
5. Jessele B. is one of my closest friend that’s why she knows me well. She said that I’m
intimidating and gives the impression that I am “mataray” or “masungit” at first which true to
other people. I agree to her when see said when you get to know me I’m a great person with
great personality which stand me out to other. As what I’ve said I’m a short-tempered which
she also stated and witness.
6. According to my friend Sheryl Moanarie L., I’m talkative which I agree well I’m talkative to the
people I’m comfortable and trust. Hmm, I don’t really agree to her that I make people love me
because I don’t really have a pleasing personality.
7. One of my longest friend is Ransel R. and according to her that I’m a goal digger which I truly
agree because I don’t give up if I don’t get I what I want or what I deserve. She also stated
that I’m “mataray” at first impression because since I’m in junior high school, I really have that
“intimidating” aura specially when I’m not talking or I’m in my poker face. I also agree that
sometime I forgot what right and wrong, especially when I’m with the people I call “home”.
8. According to our class mayor Alliah N. which I consider friend. I’m soft-hearted which I agree
and people I’m close with sees that. She also stated that I’m pretty, we’ll I love her for that
because it’s true, not to brag. I’m also responsible and hardworking according to her which I
also agree because I really get to sure to get my priorities done.
9. My friend Harlene U. is also my classmate, according to her I’m responsible which I agree
because I know that she witness that.
10. According to Ferlin R. that I’m a good friend and also will be there for you which true
because I truly treasure all the people around me.
11. My classmate Mary Rose R. has the impression that I am approachable when I don’t really
agree if we are in person. I agreed that I always respect other’s opinion on matters because I
don’t have the right to dictate. I’m also a good friend which is true.
12. Lastly, my friend Bernadette I. the one I got to bond recently because of one subject and
according to her I’m jolly and friendly which I agree and I also happy to be with, which she
also stated. I’m also responsible and passionate in everything/task I need to be done. I’m
also intelligent person which she witnessed.
