2. Pulse Code Modulation (PCM) is the simplest form of waveform coding to encode
analogue signal into a digital signal. The sampling period is 25µs with the voltage range
0V and 1V as shown in Figure Q2. The digital signal is subsequently used to reconstruct
the analogue signal.

(a) Determine the maximum frequency present in the Figure Q2.

(b) Propose m-bit binary number for quantizing process and determine possible
quantization levels for each sample.

(c) Determine the stream of binary bits generated after the A/D conversion is complete
and calculate resulting bit rate from this A/D.

(d) Delta Modulation (DM) technique is applied in Figure Q2. The sampling period and
step size are same as Q2(b). Sketch the staircase function and determine the DM output.
Assume the first DM output is 0.
