Introduction
There were a number of advantages to the notion of community safety, starting with the name of
the concept. In order to arrive at its conclusions, it relies on a variety of different approaches to
topics such as crime, risk, and victimisation. With the emergence of the so-called "left realist"
perspective in British sociologically informed criminology, a second breakthrough in crime
prevention thinking was made, with implications for the public safety agenda. This link will take
you to a more in-depth examination of this viewpoint. The study's goal is to evaluate a wide
range of factors that are related to crime reduction and community safety.

Task 1

Section 1: Recording Crime

The practises of police agencies regarding the recording of crimes are governed by the Home
Office Counting Rules (HOCR) and the National Crime Documentation Standard (NCRS)
(NCRS). The laws of England and Wales mandate that any offences that are classified as
"notifiable" must be reported. Public safety and welfare, criminal activity, antisocial behaviour,
and public transit are just a few of the many reasons why people have called the police. A police
incident report is generated and submitted with the department whenever "any reports of
incidents are made by victims or witnesses or third parties, regardless of whether they are linked
to crime or not." These features must be included into a system that can be independently
verified (Crawford and Evans, 2017).

Instead than only surveying criminals, as many people believe, CSEW really asks everyone
about their own personal encounters with crime over the past year. To guarantee that all criminals
are brought to justice, it is vital to inquire into any offences that have not been reported to the
police. For an accurate picture of crime in our country, we need to hear from both victims and
non-victims who have encountered it in the last year.

Academics who want to work in criminal justice are rare. The most complete picture of English
and Welsh crime levels and trends may be gained from these two sources of information. The
UK Data Service provides the microdata for the CSEW dataset for each year's dataset.
Academics who are interested in these subjects often utilise these databases. When it comes to
personal things, survey data may help people better understand which items are most vulnerable
to theft and how to secure them (Crowl, 2017). Criminal activity may be gauged by looking at
not only how many crimes are reported to the authorities, but also how many are really
committed. We can hold elected leaders responsible and make better voting choices in the future
if this information is widely disseminated.

Section 2: The Philosophy of Community Policing

Even after the perpetrators have left the crime scene and their physical injuries have healed, the
psychological and social effects of a crime may continue for years. Among the most common

feelings are rage, anxiety, and loneliness, as well as low self-esteem, a feeling of powerlessness,
and despair (Ratcliffe, 2018). Both society's inclination to hold victims of crime accountable for
their own trauma and the trauma of the crime must be dealt with by victims.

To put it another way, crime has a detrimental effect both on the economy and on the
communities where it occurs. It is important to keep in mind that even "victimless" crimes such
as prostitution, drug usage and gambling are not completely harmless. Employee productivity is
negatively affected by drug addiction, and public resources are diverted away from other
important priorities, such as health care and drug treatment (Hipple and Saunders, 2016). In
order to cover the costs of one's addiction, criminal behaviour is often the outcome of drug
abuse.

Crime fiction and nonfiction books are in high demand these days, with some publications
devoting up to 30% of their space to the topic. Critics claim that it has a bad effect on society's
perception of crime, leading individuals to assume that they are in more danger than they really
are. Crime tales that are chosen based on their newsworthiness and the exaggeration of specific
incidents are examples of what critics find objectionable.

Criminology and public policy have a lot to do with each other, and the media is an essential part
of that process. As a kind of public relations, setting the agenda is the capacity of the media to
influence public opinion on matters that are of particular interest to them. Media outlets must be
very careful in reporting on and withholding coverage of certain occurrences since it is natural
that they cannot cover every instance of illegal or deviant behaviour. People may only debate
crime and deviance in light of what they have learnt through the media, allowing for a dialogue
on this topic. People's ideas of criminality and deviance in society may be influenced by media
coverage of crime and deviance in society, all of which are explored below (Schnobrich-Davis et
al. 2021). Media portrayals of crime influence public opinion, whether or not they are grounded
in fact.

While law enforcement is important, community-oriented police (COP) focuses more emphasis
on creating relationships with the people of the local community rather than just implementing
regulations. There are several advantages of utilising the full-service model, including the ability
to recognise and deal with problems as they emerge, since the officer spends a long period of
time patrolling the same neighbourhood.

Section 3: Effectiveness of Crime Reduction Strategies
According to the BBC, the criminal justice system in the United Kingdom has undergone a "root
and branch makeover" since the Labour government took office in 1997. Nothing like this has
ever occurred in the history of the United Kingdom. "Tough on crime and its causes" policies
have been under significant examination and reformation in recent years. The criminal justice
system has spent a large amount of money expanding its jurisdiction. There has been a shaky
track record for the Labour Party over the last several decades. More and more crimes are being
investigated by the criminal justice system as criminologists try to create a more effective crime
control paradigm.

Conclusion
In the end, the purpose of community safety is to help people feel and be safe. At home, at work,
or when on vacation, it is essential that you feel at ease. There are many ways for you to become
involved in making your neighbourhood a better place to live if you'd like. People's safety and
well-being are only a few of the duties that fall within the purview of the federal government.
This method also includes efforts to reduce crime and prevent it.
