(b) Draw a graph to show the variation of E with perpendicular distance r from
the line of charge.
10. Show, using Gauss’s law, that for a parallel plate capacitor
consisting of two large plane parallel conductors having surface
charge densities + 𝞼 and – 𝞼 , separated by a small distance in
vacuum, the electric field
(i) in the outer regions of both the plates is zero,
(ii) is 𝞼/𝟄o in the inner region between the charged plates.
(c) Show that the electric field due to a uniformly charged infinite
plane sheet at any point distant x from it, is independent of x.
16. Use Gauss’s law to obtain an expression for the electric field due to
an infinitely long straight uniformly charged wire.
Electric field in the given figure is directed along + X direction and
given by Ex = 5Ax + 2B, where E is in NC-1 and x is in metre, A and
B are constants with dimensions. Taking A = 10NC-1m-1 and B =
5NC-1 calculate. (i) the electric flux through the cube. (ii) net charge
enclosed within the cube.
