“A woman is human.

She is not better, wiser, stronger, more intelligent, more creative, or more responsible than a man.
Likewise, she is never less.

Equality is a given.

A woman is human.”

Sexism against women is so common that it’s indented into our cultural and political beliefs. The Philippines is a
patriarchal society, it’s justice and political system is male-dominated. In current times, women are dehumanized,
they are sexualized and treated like garbage. Society has double standards for the genders, a man who speaks his
opinion is strong and passionate, while a woman who speaks her opinion is a loudmouth. A woman who gets angry
is irrational and ‘unladylike’, while a man who gets angy knows what he wants and gets it. A woman is expected to
cook, clean, and obey their husbands.
Money creates opportunities to live, eat, and to have fun, that is until you are a woman.
The majority of countries in our world still has a gender pay gap, with men earning over 24% higher than women.
Women who are given the chance to work in the same fields as men are often required to go through lengths to
climb up the ladder full of misogynist men. A woman will always sink to the bottom, while a man will rejoice
ontop of a high pedestal. Men care enough for women, in terms of using their body, but never acknowledge the
need to create a system that takes care of them efficiently. In the United States of America, Women’s rights to
their bodies were abolished due to the overturning of Roe V. Wade, a landmark which allowed women to have the
decision to abort or to keep a pregnancy that may affect their health or lifestyle.
There is no gender equality without women empowerment and feminism.
There’s no overnight solution to the misogyny women are facing, but if we start now,
We can get rid of sexism and create a future where all humans are equal.
Instead of teaching your daughters to dress ‘respectfully’, teach your sons to keep it in their pants.
Teach yourself and your future sons to respect women and their opinions, love your daughter like you would a
son.
In women’s lives, they are taught ways to be a great wife, but not once has a man been taught to be a good
husband. And I think it’s time to change that.
