A Pen is mightier than a sword’, represents the true power of pen. The phrase means that the
power of pen that is education is mightier than even a sword that can kill countless number of
people. In the present context one can say that manufacturing of pen is mightier than
manufacturing of sword as the demand of pen is higher in the world today. As education became
the fundamental necessity of humans from the last one century, people have invested more in
education. Pen is one such product that is being manufactured at huge scale and has global
market of billion dollars. My father is a teacher and he has always taught me the value of a pen,
which has been an inspiration for my business.
The demand for high quality, durable and affordable pens continues to rise. Write Clean
Scholastics is setting up a manufacturing plant for pens to meet this demand that every passing
day seems to be growing.

Write Clean Scholastics aims to produce different types of pens for different users and purposes.
Our pens are durably made from the best materials available and of a superior quality. From the
sourcing of the materials to the manufacturing production lines of different components, the
company ensures that the finish products meet the standards and demands of an ever increasing
market
Raw materials are locally available and though the company imports some that are only available
on the international market. The manufactured pens will be packages, branded, and sold as read-
to-use products.

Pricing will be based on different factors such as cost of production, marketing and tax regime

The revenue potential is estimated at US $ 31,200 annually with a total capital investment of
US$ 10,000. Plastic ball pens are now gradually becoming a part of common possession, which
turns popular by the year.

The market potential of a pen manufacturing business is fair, though it keeps on changing on a
real-time basis. Due to the current pandemic, schools and offices have fully resumed in full gear,
and the need continues to rise. Business, and companies, people from different walks of life uses
the pen and we have created strong marketing strategy to sell to them

The target markets are the numerous shopkeepers and distributors who deal with stationary
business. We plan to setup a retail shop to sell pens in order to increase the profit margin. We are
to enter into partnerships with some businesses or companies who purchase pens and then brand
it with their company’s name to distribute it within their company or to clients. Pharmaceutical
companies are best example of the same. We already have a network of clients that has been
buying products from us, who are ready to embrace this new product line. Thus, the business
bases its marketing strategy on referrals and social media marketing that are easy to quantify.

Resource Requirements
Equipments currently needed; punching machine, stamping machine, ink filling machine,
centrifuging machine, drilled nozzle plate. Materials needed; an ink formulation, various
pigments and dyes that provide different colors. Other materials, such as lubricants, surfactants,
thickeners, and preservatives, are also part of the requirements. These ingredients are typically
dispersed in materials such as oleic acid, castor oil, or a sulfonamide plasticizer. Other costs
include; the cost of labor, specialists, skilled technicians, rented space, registering as tax entity,
employees in office, and some extra expenditure.

Building a Team
I am in-charge of marketing and sales department, with a field team that’s very customer and
business oriented which has served the clients very professionally for the years we have been in
operation. Olivia Morgan is the operations manager with over ten years’ experience in small
scale business dealings, vast experience coupled with exemplary work ethics. There is a
production team that is well equipped in vocational training to carry out this task. There is need
to further recruit a well-trained technician to handle the processing equipments.

Business Forecasting and Planning
The proposed plant is for manufacture of refills for the ball pens. The ball pen has almost
replaced the conventional fountain pens, with the use-and-throw refills, creating a niche of its
own. Thanks to the ease and convenience of the ball pens, they have turned into the most
preferred medium of writing, which is not only cost –effective, but also serves the variegated
needs of the people who write. These come in different sizes and in various colours made from a
very small diameter HDPE tubes filled with a special type of ink. The business idea aims at
production of 500 units per day thus 156,000 units per annum

What are the next steps for your business?


Managing our business with efficiency will increase the profit margin and will give the company
good returns. First two years of our earnings would be spent on the investment we made and only
after that can we start to get any returns. Profit margin which is low in this business can be
increased by increasing the product value or by doing value addition, diversifying into a different
product like books, pencils to supplement the educational materials’ portfolio.
