The new models feature an entirely new concept self-adjusting spring loaded tension pulley. The
of cooling system design for suppression of sound fan has 12 blades to provide high-efficiency
and ease of maintenance. The cooling fan is cooling. In the lower tank of the radiator is built a

! WARNING Start by:

Steam can cause personal injury.
1. remove the radiator cover
Remove the filler cap slowly to relieve
pressure. 2. remove the engine hood and gas-filled cylinder
Cooling system conditioner contains alkali.
Avoid contact with the skin and eyes to
prevent personal injury. Allow cooling
system components and the muffler to cool
before draining.

Suggestions

(1) Make sure the coolant temperature is low.

(2) Put tensioner wrench (91268-04500) to the

tension pulley mounting bolt from between
the counterweight and frame (base plate), and
loosen the bolt by moving the wrench 15 to
20 times in the direction of the arrow. Avoid
over-loosening the bolt since this could cause
the pulley to fall into the counterweight. When 203460
this happens, the counterweight has to be
removed to take out the pulley.

(3) Push the tension pulley inward as far as it will

go and remove the belt.

203461

To install, follow the reverse of removal sequence

and do the following steps:

(1) After removing the belt, rotate the fan to test

the bearings for noise. Replace the bearings
if they are noisy.

(2) After installing the belt, hand push the belt

inward midway between the pulleys to make
sure the tension pulley moves freely, then
tighten the tension pulley bolt securely.

(3) Start and run the engine. With the engine

running, make sure the fan (bearings) runs
smoothly.

(4) Install the hoses, upper and lower, to the

radiator. Slide about 30 mm [1.2 in.] of each
hose on to the radiator tube and clamp it there.

3 Fan cowl 6 V-belt

Start by:

1. remove the radiator cover

2. remove the bolts holding the counterweight,

then fasten a hoist to the counterweight and
remove it
NOTE
Check the weight of the counterweight.

Suggestions
(1) Remove the fan support bolts. Remove the
belt from the driven pulley, then remove the
fan assembly. Lay the fan assembly on the
work bench with the support side down. Turn
the fan to check the bearings for condition.
Replace the fan bearings if they are abnor-
mally noisy.

(2) Remove the two bolts on the lower side of the

radiator. Loosen (but not remove) the two
bolts on the upper side of the radiator.

(3) Push the radiator toward the engine to remove

the belt from the tension pulley. Let the belt Loosen (but not
remove).
fall onto the universal joint.

203463

To install, follow the reverse of removal sequence

and do the following steps:

(1) Fan assembly installation

Put the belt on the driven pulley (of the fan

assembly) and tighten one of the fan support
bolts on the lower side of the support. Then
loosen the tension pulley mounting bolt. Take
hold of the upper portion of the fan support Tension pulley
and put the support against the mounting mounting bolt
bosses (formed of the frame) and tighten its 203464
bolts, two on the upper side and two on the
lower side.

(2) Push the belt inward midway between the

drive and driven pulleys to make sure the
tensioner moves freely. Then tighten the
tension pulley mounting bolt.

INSPECTION AND ADJUSTMENT

Fan Belt Inspection

(1) Check to make sure that the belt is free from

oil, grease or other foreign matter. Replace
the belt as necessary. A slightly dirty belt can
be re-used by cleaning with wiping cloth or
paper. Do not attempt to clean the belt with
gasoline or the like.

(2) At the time of overhauling the engine or

adjusting the belt tension, closely examine the
belt and replace it if defective.

Fan Belt Adjustment

1. Trucks with standard exhaust muffler

(1) Remove the grille from the counterweight.

(2) Using a socket wrench and extension handle,

loosen the tension pulley mounting bolt 3 to
4 turns through the vent hole of the counter-
weight.

(3) After the slack in the belt has been taken up 203465
by the tension spring, tighten the tension pul-
ley mounting bolt.

! CAUTION
Do not attempt to adjust the belt when the muf-
fler is hot. Be careful not to let the socket fall.

2. Other trucks

(1) Remove the radiator cover.

(2) Using tensioner wrench (91268-04500),

loosen the tension pulley mounting bolt 3 to
4 turns from between the counterweight and
frame (base plate).
203461
NOTE
For fan belt removal, refer to 1. After remov-
ing radiator.

(3) The slack in the belt will be automatically

taken up. Tighten the tension pulley mount-
ing bolt.
(4) Install the radiator cover in position.
