moment, it is our duty to fulfill the objectives and vision for
your total development. Consider this module or study packet
as a gift from the CMPCD teachers and administration as we
devoted our love, passion and school's philosophy into craft, so
that you will study it, practice it and live with it.

Always remember that the key to successful learning is


through a healthy communication with your teachers and
guardian at home. You will be given clear instructions by your
teachers on how your work will be submitted and your part is
to obey them. This module is intended to be your guide towards
the right path.

OBJECTIVES

Colegio Monterei De Pila Child Development Inc. believes


that a child, given the necessary trust, independence and a
prepared environment will sponataneously construct himself
into a man who is a responsible "citizen of the world" and an
agent of change. order to safeguard the individuality of the
child, CMPCD's primary aim is to help man's formation of the
child in his becoming man based on psychology..
Also CMPCD helps child preserve his balance, psychic
health and build up secure orientation in the present conditions
of the world.

curriculums in a nurturing environment focused on man's
conduct and harmonious relationship with others.

LESSON 1: THE NTH TERM

LESSON OVERVIEW

Patterns are everywhere. Some situations


your encounter every day follow a pattern. Your
savings from your school allowance, the battery
life of your phone, and your running speed at
different times can all follow a pattern.
In mathematics, sequence of numbers have
patterns to follow. In this module, you will be able
to learn how to find the patterns in a sequence of
number. Also, find the missing term in a
sequence.

Sequence of Number

Sequence - a list of numbers or objects


following a rule or set of rules called
pattern.

Pattern - set of rules in a sequence.


Term - each element composed in a
sequence.

Example: In the sequence 4, 8, 12, 16, ..., the


first term is 4, the second is 8, and so on.

The nth Term of a Sequence

The nth term of a sequence is a general


expression used to determine the number
in the nth position of a sequence.

Example 1: Determine the rule for the nth


term of the sequence 6, 12, 18, 24, 30, ..., n.

Solution:

Step 1: Organize your data in table.

Step 2: Look for a pattern. Notice that


the number 6 is always added to the
previous term to get the next term.

Step 3: Rewrite each term as a sum of


6s following the pattern in step 2.

Step 4: Write the pattern in factored


form.

Therefore, the nth term of the sequence 6,


12, 18, 24, 30, ..., is 6n.

Example 2: Determine the nth term of the


number sequence 7, 11, 15, 19, 23, ..., n.

Solution:

Step 1: Find the pattern for the number


sequence.

You see that adding 4 to the previous term


yields the next term.

Step 2: Rewrite each term as a sum of


4s.

Step 3: Write the pattern using a factor


of 4.

Therefore, the rule for the nth term of the sequence


is 3 + 4n or 4n + 3
