COTTON BALL CATAPAULT

Topic: potential & kinetic energy

Materials:
 12 popsicle sticks  Cotton ball
 Plastic spoon  Scrap paper formed into a ball
 Rubber bands  Meterstick
 Tape  Paint

Procedure:
1. Divide your popsicle sticks into two groups, for catapault no. 1 make one with two sticks and the other with
seven sticks. For catapault no. 2 make one with two sticks and the other with 10 sticks.
2. Add an elastic band to each end of the group of five and one elastic band to the end of the group of two,
as shown.

3. Split apart the two craft sticks that have been joined by an elastic band at one end.
4. Place the thicker group of craft sticks between those two to hold it open.
5. Rest a spoon along the length of your top craft stick, holding it into place with the elastic band already in
place.
6. Secure the end of the spoon onto the craft stick using another elastic band.
7. As a launcher, use cotton balls and scrap paper formed into a ball.
8. Using a meter stick, determine the distance of landing.
