The documentary is about a rescue mission in Thailand. A football team with twelve members and a coach
was trapped in a 1km deep cave due to flooding caused by heave rain. During the rescue, there were many
conflict between international rescuer and Thai government officers. All these scenes were shown to the
audience to let us know that the mission was not as smooth as we expected.
Meaning
1. The first meaning of the documentary is to show audience how dangerous and powerful the mother
Earth and nature are, also how weak humans are. We always think that we are the smartest species and
the leaders of the globe. Owing to this, we always want to fight the nature by changing it and ignoring
the danger of it. In the documentary, there are many clips showing the inside of the cave, filled with fast
water stream. Moreover, the documentary shows that 13 people are nearly killed by a rain storm. It shows
that humans are very weak comparing to the nature, a rainstorm can already take lives from people, not
needed to say other disasters like earthquake and tornado.

2. The second meaning is teamwork. There are more than 5k people from all around the globe joined the
mission. Cave diving lovers from UK played important roles during the mission, locating and bringing the
trapped ones out. Although there are language barrier between the volunteers and conflicts with Thai
government, they still put their hands together and try their best to save the soccer team. From the
documentary, we can see government officers having meeting with rescuers, finding out the best way to
save the team. Uk rescuers were responsible to bring them out, US army bringing them to the ground
and the Thai medical team took care of them. The mission and the documentary shows the great
teamwork

3. The third meaning is unselfishness an not to be self centred. Feeling what others feel. I am impressed by
the cave diving lovers. Although the one trapped are not their child and they even didnt know those kids
before the rescue, they still travelling half of the Earth to Thailand, helping the government to rescue the
team. As a cave diving lover, they must know all the dangers and fatal accidents which may happen while
diving, however, they still dived into the narrow and crooked cave many times, putting their own lives at
a high risk and the lives of the soccer team as their first priority.

They always consider the benefits of the whole mission before themselves. Sacrificing their own time to
rescue someone who haven’t met before just because they think they have the responsibility to help the
Earth to become a better place.

An ex-seal members even sacrificed himself to locate the team members. The attitude of all rescuers
teaches us to consider good for other people before our own benefits. Applying their attitude in daily life,
we can start by something small, for example, giving seats to someone in need on a train. Always consider
others before any action.

Expectation
I expected to see the full picture of the event in the documentary, from both the rescuers and the team’s
perspectives. However, the production team only shows the story from rescuers’ side. Although the content
is very abundant and it fits my expectation perfectly, it would be better if we can also see what happened to
the team while they are waiting for the rescue. Moreover, I appreciate the flow of the documentary because
the flow is according to time order of the mission. Using this approach, readers can understand the whole
mission easier. Furthermore, the documentary successfully brings the meaning to audience through
monologue of rescuers. We can hear the difficulties they encountered while they were diving in the cave and
how they overcome them from the mouth of them. By doing so, we can really know whats happening from
a 1st person perspective.

Reflection
It changed how I see the world and people. From the film, we can see how weak human are and how
accidents may happen at anytime, for example, the team planned a normal hiking but they almost lost their
lives. Owing to this, I think we should treasure everything and everybody around us rather than complaining
what we dont have because they may leave us some day at a very sudden. Moreover, we should also care
more about whats hap
