Context and Rationale

“The only way to make sense out of changes is to plunge into it, move with
it, and join the dance.” Alan W. Watts
The quotation above by Watts emphasizes the attitude of one person
towards change. It is related to the changes in education system wherein
teachers and students must apply that attitude towards new normal.
The Covid-19 pandemic is first and foremost a health crisis in the country
wherein most classes stopped and most schools, universities and colleges
were closed. (Simon & Sievertsen 2020).
According to Sevilla (2020) the coming school year will be full of disruptions
related to Covid-19 but still DepEd continues to prepare for various scenarios
to ensure the learning of students will continue. She also said that the
education may become the new normal amid the Covid-19 situation
wherein the small percentage of learners before who subscribe to online
learning compared to formal schooling but with the current situation, this may
be reversed. Changes are inevitable.
The statement of Sevilla shows that the Department of Education is very
determined to ensure the stakeholders that amid Covid-19 the education will
continue still.

process. They conclude that the presence of blended learning was providing
opportunities to independently hold control of achieving learning goals.
The said study signifies the importance of blended learning to the students.

In addition, In the study of Cepeda (2017). The proposed model in blended

learning for a numerical method evolved from traditional teaching into
research lab in scientific visualization. The blended learning approach sets a
differentiated and flexible scheme based on a mobile setup and face to face
sessions centered on a net of research challenges.
While in the result of the study of Alfhadi et. al. (2015) states that the
teachers views toward blended learning were generally positive and very
promising in both sections.

It was very interesting to know that the EFL teachers in Tabuk City were very
optimistic and motivated.

Moreover, Atilim (2015) stated that the result of analysis, there is a

significant difference between students’ view in relation with blended
learning environment as well as online and face to face learning
environments. The result shows that students have expressed that they learn
more effectively in a blended learning environment.
The study above shows that students had their different views with regards to
blended learning and appreciated most the blended learning wherein they
learn effectively.
Furthermore, in the study of Dangwal (2017) discussed that the Blended
Learning is an innovative concept that embraces the advantages of both
traditional teaching in the classroom and ICT supported learning including
both offline learning and online learning. She also mentions that Blended
learning needs rigorous efforts, right attitude, handsome budget and highly
motivated teachers and students for its successful implementation.

much concern to the current COVID-19 situation that will affect the learning of
the students.

The purpose of the study is to investigate the effect of Covid-19 to the leaning
of learners and use the result of the study for an intervention plan.

Action Research Questions

1.What are the effects of Covid-19 to the learning of learners as perceived

by:

a. School Head;

b. Teachers;

c. Students; and

d. Parents

2.What are the problems encountered by the respondents in terms of face to

face learning and online blended platform?

3. Based on the result of the study, what is the appropriate intervention to be

proposed?

Proposed Innovation, Intervention and Strategy

The researchers will propose to use a Google Classroom as a Blended

Learning Platform which can be useful to the institution, teachers and
students.

Action Research Methods

To dispense and retrieve the necessary data for this study, the researchers
will administer a researcher-made questionnaire for the five (5) ABM teachers,
five (5) parents and ten students per section with a total of twenty (20) ABM
students and school head of the institution. Descriptive design utilized in this
study that will focus on the effect of Covid-19 to the learning of learners in
General Flaviano Yengko Senior High School.

The data were subjected to statistical analysis like weighted mean. The
researcher utilized the Likert scale with the following weight and description;

5-Storngly Agree
4-Agree
3-Moderately Agree
2-Disagree
1-Strongly Disagree

Population and Sample

A total of five (5) ABM teachers, five (5) Parents, twenty (20) and the school
head. The questionnaire will be purposively distributed to the respondents.

Distribution of Respondents

Stakeholders Frequency Percentage

Teachers 5 16 %

Students 20 65 %

Parents 5 16 %
School Head 1 3%
Total 31 100%

Data Gathering Procedure

Phase I. Preparation Stage

The researchers will craft a researcher-made questionnaire and will seek

the approval of the school head to conduct a survey to stakeholders of the
institution.

Phase II. Data Gathering Stage

The researchers will then administer the questionnaires online to the

respondents.

Phase III. Data Analysis Stage

After retrieving all the data, the researchers will tabulate, organize,
compute, analyse and interpret the data. Frequency Mean and Percentage
will be used in the study.

Ethical Issues

The participants’ response in the questionnaire and the given information of

the respondents were treated with confidentiality. The study highly adhered to
the absence of conflict of interest and anti-plagiarism.

completely to the learners with a mean of 4.0, as for the students the ability to
learn the lessons for each subject was not possible and for the parents due to
current situation they Agree that there is a difficulty to support children needs
and studies with a mean of 4.0.

In addition, findings revealed that the health is risky in the face to face
learning with a mean of 4.7 while the availability of online blended platform
was the main concern of the respondents in the current situation.

RECOMMENDATIONS

1.Since the result of the study is affirmative, stakeholders must think of ways on
how to handle the effects of Covid-19 in the learning of learners.
2.The “New Normal” in General Flaviano Yengko Senior High School must be
implemented in order to overcome the specified problems encountered in
face to face learning and online blended platform.
3.In order to address the concern of stakeholders with regards to the
availability of online blended platform the Google Classroom classes for each
subject must be created.
