TOPIC: PHYSIOLOGICAL MONITORING AND DEVICE INTERFACE

1. What skills and knowledge would you need to develop to participate actively as a health
professional within the E-health mileu?
- A health professional must possess communication skills for them to be able to be clear with
every information, and have a better understanding when it comes to interoperability and in
having any transactions with others, problem solving skills and a critical thinking skill is very
important in order to have the most appropriate decision in every situation, and the most
important because it’s an E-ealth, a health professional must have information and
technology skills. Since E-health revolves around technology and how it works, one must
attain a sufficient amount of knowledge about ICT and how it is applied and integrated to
the health care setting. Another skill to have are communication skills and interpersonal
skills, in an industry wherein active interaction with colleagues and patients are at utmost
priority, one must be both an active speaker and an attentive listener, through this, sharing
of data and ideas about E-health can flourish. Another skill a health professional must have
is self-discipline; it is important in any field you will go to. In order to have a good focus and
in order to make things coordinated, self-discipline should always be a skill of a health
professional. When it comes to knowledge, ofcourse it is important to know and be a master
of the field you’re into specially in health and because it’s ehealth, it is important to have a
great knowledge about information and technology.

2. What future trends in E-health do you predict in the Philippines?

- With what we have now, we are in a pandemic, I think the Philippines is already starting to
adapt to modern and high technology. We are already moving to the virtual world where
things will be done online. So I see the Philippines to be like what is already practiced in
other first world countries like having an online app for prescriptions, where there will be an
application where a client may already get a prescription from a doctor thru online process
and no need for face to face consult with a doctor. Telemedicine also will be more practiced
and it may be the new norm in the future, where consultations will be done online. Doctors
specially from the DOH will work online and accept different clients. I also see our health
system to go into totally electronic health record, no more paper works, everything will be
done electronically like other countries, charting will already be done electronically. In
future, many equipment will be more high-tech, many inventions will come out like an
intelligent implant will monitor the healing of bone fractures after surgery and warn in case
of incorrect loading. If a bone grows together incorrectly, the smart helper will even
counteract this with movement. There will also come a time that there will be robots that
can already help like a health professional.
