READING COMPREHENSION :
JULIO`S PET
My parents gave me a dog when I was ten. I called the dog Brandon. At first, I took Brandon
everywhere with me: to the park, to the beach, even to school one day.
My mom said that Brandon was very dirty because he left hairs everywhere, but I loved him. After
the first few months,
I didn’t take Brandon everywhere, but I took him for walks and we still played together. I had
Brandon for two years, but then a car hit him when he was running down the street and he died. I
was really sad. Now we have a cat in the house. It’s my sister’s cat and it’s called Olenka. Olenka
leaves hairs everywhere, and I think Brandon was friendlier. I’m going to buy a new dog when I’m
older.

NASREDDIN'S VISITORS
One day a visitor came to Nasreddin's house. "I am your cousin from Konya," he said, "and I have
brought you a duck to celebrate the visit." Nasreddin was delighted. He asked his wife to cook the
duck, and served the visitor a fine dinner.
The next day another visitor arrived. "I am the friend of the man who brought you the duck," he
said. Nasreddin invited him in and gave him a good meal. The next day another visitor arrived, and
said he was the friend of the friend of the man who had brought the duck. Again Nasreddin invited
him in for a meal. However, he was getting annoyed. Visitors seemed to be using his house as a
restaurant.
Then another visitor came, and said he was the friend of the friend of the friend of the man who had
brought the duck. Nasreddin invited him to eat dinner with him. His wife brought some soup to the
table and the visitor tasted it. "What kind of soup is this?" asked the visitor. "It tastes just like warm
water." "Ah!" said Nasreddin, "That is the soup of the soup of the soup of the duck."

MEALS IN MY COUNTRY
Well, I´m American but my mom is Korean, she told me that for breakfast people often
have rice with a kind of soup that has got seaweed in it, you know, the plant that grows in
the sea. Then for lunch the children usually take a lunchbox with them to school with rice
and kimchi in it. Kimchi is a kind of mixed vegetables dish. It has hot pepper in it. It´s
very popular in Korea and you can have it for any meal. Then dinner is the big meal of the
day. People tend to have Kimchi and rice again and soup. They might also have some meat,
which they cook on a hot plate on the table in front of them while they are having the soup.
The meat is often chicken or pork and you can put soya sauce in it.
