5.0 3D MODEL DEVELOPMENT

 PLADES 3-D model shall have the following working units: Master Unit = M, Sub Units = MM.
 The coordinates of the plant global coordinate system are 0.000 M East, 0.000 M North.
Elevation 0.000 M is equal to +6.000 M from Mean Sea Level. The global axis is defined with
+X = East, +Y = Plant North, and +Z = Up.
 FGL (Finished Ground Level) =0.000 M (+6.000 M from Mean Sea Level) and FFL (Finished
Floor Level) = 0.300 M (+6.300 M) from Mean Sea Level shall be considered.

5.1 PLANT NUMBERING SYSTEM

The plant numbering system will be as per document no. AJV-DPW-00-000-ME-PHP-0009.
Equipment will be numbered from North to South, East to West and Bottom to Top.

5.2 MODEL RESPONSIBILITIES

 Each design discipline shall be responsible for creation and review of their work in the model.
This includes a thorough review that the equipment and other physical parameters have been
modeled accurately and that all files are properly inserted into the model. The review should
include an independent review by a second person to verify the accuracy of the model input.
 If a model file has been transferred over from one design discipline to another design
discipline (example: preliminary space block model for piperack or platform etc are transferred
to the Structural discipline for final design) both disciplines are responsible to ensure that all
model components have been fully transferred during the turnover. As part of this transfer the
original design discipline should review the final design.
 Care shall be taken that all equipment interfaces and ancillary objects are accurately modeled.
 The designers will also be responsible to verify that all interferences and discrepancies have
been reviewed and resolved.

 It is each discipline’s responsibility to resolve all interferences and discrepancies prior to their
specific drawing releases.

5.3 MODEL CONTENT

 All objects modeled should equal or exceed the actual physical dimensions (i.e. pipe
insulation, duct work stiffeners, equipment projections etc. shall be considered). However,
judgment must be exercised on the level of detail of the 3-D model. The model should only be
as detailed as necessary to perform the required design tasks. In general the 3-D Model is
required to:
 Perform interference checks. All modeled shapes should be sufficiently detailed to reserve
the space required for the object as well as the space required for operation and maintenance
(O&M).
 Generate General Arrangement and composite type drawings. This may require that objects
be modeled to a greater degree to provide an acceptable representation on the drawings.
Define interface points. This includes interfaces to:

 Piping (large bore or hot small bore)

 Embedded conduits
 Equipment pads

 Serve as basis for multi-discipline design work in 3-D space. This requires that objects are
located accurately in the model to assure that design work performed by other disciplines is
dimensionally correct.
 All disciplines shall keep their respective portions of the model accurate and up to date.
Model updates shall be made immediately whenever physical arrangement changes have
occurred.

5.4 SPACE ALLOCATION

 The model shall be used to identify space allocation required for the construction, operation
and maintenance of the plant during both the general arrangement and detail design phases
of the project. The following areas should be considered:
 Equipment pull spaces, work spaces, door swings, removal aisles, access aisles, headroom
clearances, etc. (3-D). Frequently, the 3-D model files of these areas obscure viewing of the
3-D model during project walk-through meetings. Therefore, when appropriate, these areas
should be modeled in separate files, which can be turned off during the 3-D model reviews.
Alternately, such models to be placed on specified levels of MicroStation. These levels can be
turned off during model review.

6.0 EXTENT OF MODEL

extending up to pedestal extends.

7.0 METHOD OF CHECKING 3D CAD MODELS

 Check the model against the latest issue of the P&IDs via compare and update utility and
schematic 3D Integrator.
 Follow the line in the direction of flow systematically and pay strict attention to details, since
many accidents are caused by seemingly minor items.
 Mark on the on the P&IDs all the lines, equipment and instrumentation which have been
checked and accepted.
 Indicate the points which have not been accepted, to facilitate the review in follow- up checks.
 Ensure that when a modification is proposed it suits its purpose, and does not conflict with
other requirements. Ensure that it is practical, safe, in accordance with the P&IDs and also
economic. If in doubt, consult the appropriate specialists of other disciplines.
 Use the checklist of Appendix C during the model review. Note that the checklist is not
exhaustive and shall not overrule sound judgement.

Notes:
1. The Final Design colors for equipment shall be used after the equipment's dimensions have
been verified against certified vendor information.
2. For vendor supplied model of large facilities (HRSG, Packaged item etc.) the color scheme
used by vendor shall be retained to minimize the effort in processing the model.
3. The Existing Design colors shall be used to identify a site's pre-existing facilities that are not
part of the new design.
4. The demolition design colors shall be used to identify a site’s pre-existing facilities, which
will be demolished to accommodate new design. It will be at the discretion of the project
team when these files shall be removed from the model.
