Meaning and Process of Doing Philosophy

MODULE 3

Target

Each person with ultimate freedom has the right and the power to
take action on how anybody or anything outside their being will choose
or rely on their actions. So often, some people forget the ability they
hold within them to control the path to their efforts.
In life, it is a matter of how the choices you make influence what you
become, and how the direction of your lives comes down to those choices you
make. The journey to tread in your life depends on your preferences because
choices have consequences; you get to make your own decisions, but you do not
get to choose your results.

In the previous module you have learned that freedom is important towards
self- realization. In this module you will learn different situations that demonstrate
freedom of choice and the consequences of your choices.

After going through this module, you are expected to:

1. Distinguishes between choices and consequences.
2. Value the importance of exercising freedom of choice.
3. Illustrate situations that show freedom of choice and their consequences.

Choice/s and Consequences

As senior high school student, the choice is supposed not anymore between
good and bad but between good, better and best.

Choice involves decision making. It can include judging the merits of multiple
options and selecting one or more of them.

Simple choices include the choice of food, what to wear, what to do

weekends. Etc. More complex choices include: what profession to pursue,
choosing life partner, etc.

The paradox of choice as increasing options available: there is the issue of

gaining adequate information about the choices in order to make decisions.
If there is one choice available, and ends up being disappointment, the
world can be held accountable. When there are many options and the choice
that one makes is disappointing, the individual is responsible.

Consequences is something that happens as a result of a particular action or

set of condition.
