Gabay sa Magulang/Tagapag-alaga

Isinulat ang modyul na ito upang gabayan ang mag-aaral sa ikapitong


baitang na linangin ang kaniyang aspektong personal, sosyal, akademiko at
karera. Dinisenyo ito sa alternatibong pamaraan ng pagkatuto na hindi
nangangailangan ng presensya sa paaralan, bilang tugon sa pandemyang
Covid-19.
Maaaring may pagkakataon na hingin ng mag-aaral ang inyong
patnubay sa pagsunod sa mga tagubilin at pagsagot sa mga tanong sa bawat
bahagi ng gawain. Hinihiling ng Kagawaran ng Edukasyon ang inyong suporta
upang matagumpay niyang maisakatuparan ang mga gawaing ito. Tiyakin na
sasagutin niya ang bawat bahagi ng modyul nang tapat.

Introductory Message

For the learner:

This module is designed to help you know more about making decisions in life
with the help of the people around you. This includes decisions in the middle of the
health crisis that we are experiencing at the moment. There are activities that will help
you know more about the way you make decisions. You will write the activities on a
piece of paper to be submitted to your adviser which will be included in your portfolio.
Work on the tasks seriously; seek help if you believe you need to. Remember,
in life there are things that you cannot control. There will be negative events that will
challenge your positive dispositions. However, do not be disheartened; you have the
means on how to overcome it. You have that in you! Embark on this journey of
overcoming your weaknesses and optimizing your strengths in transforming into a
better version of yourself!

This self-learning module has six interactive tasks, which are as follows:

Let’s Explore This – which will guide you towards what you need to learn;

Keep in Mind – which will give you the lessons that you need to learn and
understand;

You Can Do It – which will help you apply the lessons learned in daily
activities;

What I Have learned – which will test and evaluate your learning; and

Share Your Thoughts and Feelings – which will help you express your
thoughts, opinions and feelings.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this module, you are expected to:


1. identify steps in making sound decisions;
2. construct your own appropriate steps to make a sound decision;
3. analyze possible outcome in making decision for common good; and
4. value the importance of being responsible in making personal decisions.
Period: Weeks 3 to 5 of 2nd Quarter

Introduction

Making choices is one of the basic


things you do every day. You make choices
everywhere—at home, in school and in the
community. You as a person need to decide
and choose the right and best choice in life and
career. But somehow it is hard to decide on
your own because there are different factors
that influence your decision. In this module, try
to appreciate the role of your teachers, parents and other significant persons in your
life in identifying the different steps in decision-making.

Let’s Try This

Suggested Time Allotment: 25 minutes


Think what kind of decision-maker you are. Do you decide based on your
feelings? Or you take enough time to think about it first? Are you someone who asks
opinions of others like your parents, siblings, friends, and trusted adults? Think of two
to three personal experiences that support your thought.
After ten minutes, face the mirror and tell what kind of decision-maker you are.
Tell why you should maintain or change your ways of deciding.
After the activity, answer the following questions on a sheet of paper.
Processing Questions:
1. How do you feel about your answer? Why?
2. Based on your answers in the activity, how do you make decisions?
3. Why do you need to be aware on how you make decisions? Will it help you in your
future situations?

Suggested Time Allotment: 30 Minutes


Help Betty by identifying her problem and by providing as many possible helpful
solutions as you can. Use the given template as your guide. Do this on a sheet of
paper.

Help Betty
Betty is having a hard time thinking how she can still continue her studies now
that their family is facing a health crisis. Her mother tested positive for Covid-19 and
has a diabetes while her father could not even work since his employer retrenched
him. She cannot focus anymore in her lessons as she’s worried about their situation.

Suggested Time Allotment: 20 Minutes


Everyday, you use your decision-making skills on the things you are about to
do or choose. Making decisions is making choices or not choosing at all. Deciding on
your own may be very difficult at your age. Children like you need guidance from
parents, guardians, or older siblings in making decisions.
People have experienced making good and bad decisions and it is helpful to
learn from it and move on.
There are factors that influence the decision-making process of adolescence,
like peer, environment, family, knowledge and skills to decide, beliefs, culture, and
many more. In some studies, the psychological and social factors most of the time
have great effect on the decisions of adolescents like you.
There are five basic steps in making a decision.

1. Define the problem.
2. Gather information about the issue or problem.
3. Know your options.
4. Weigh the pros and cons of each option.
5. Take the courage to decide and act on it.
If the issue or problem is not solved, go back to your step number 1 and follow
the other steps again until you succeed.
Always remember that you are a work in progress. If you fail, the only way up
is to stand and try again. Take your failures as opportunities to become better. As
American inventor Thomas Edison said, “I have not failed. I just found 10,000 ways
that won’t work.”

You Can Do It!


Suggested Time Allotment: 45 minutes
Think of a past or present problem that you are comfortable to share with your
Homeroom Guidance teacher. Try to apply the five basic steps in making a decision.
Do this on a piece of paper.
1. Define the problem.
2. Gather information about the issue or problem.
3. Know your options.
4. Weigh the pros and cons of each option.
5. Take the courage to decide.

Based on the previous activity, make a poster of the desired outcome of
your decision. Show also in the poster how you would feel if you would attain it.

Dear Self
Make a letter to yourself about your decisions in the past months. Include how
you feel about it and the things that you would try to change to improve your decision-
making skills. Do this on a sheet of paper.
