Nurses Effective Communication

For nurses, effective communication in healthcare means approaching every

patient engagement with the purpose of learning about the patient's issues,

experiences, and views, rather than just relaying information. Communication skills such

as active listening, patient demonstrate and verbal and nonverbal communication are

used, as is the use of various communication tools.

The families that I picked to interview for the INP community health nursing

program are both the families of my aunts. Since I was already acquainted with them, I

didn't exert much effort to build a rapport with them. As a result, I began by defining the

problem. When I explained to them that I wanted to do an online interview with them for

one of our COPAR programs, they enthusiastically agreed to participate. Afterwards, I

explained to them the reasons for the interview, as well as the goals and objectives of

the process: we were hoping to gather information from them that we could use for our

community assessment later on, as well as to hear their concerns and learn about their

experiences and perspectives. First, I asked them what they believed the challenges

were in the neighborhood they were in. I listened to them as they described the issues
they saw in their neighborhood. It was to set the tone and provide me with some facts.

Then, using the family initial database, I continued to ask them questions, as well as

some follow-up questions. I consider my communication skills to be good because I

obtained all of the information I needed from them by asking additional questions rather

than relying solely on the form.
